My theory is that it's market research.

Why do you guys insist it was fake. Did the buyer tell you so? There are iPads out there. I was at a University of KY basketball game a couple of weeks ago, and at halftime a guy won a basketbal shootaround contest and won an iPad. They gave it to him on the spot new in the box. Maybe the FCC allows that since it wasn't a "sale". I saw it myself and couldn't believe it. I figured he'd get a coupon or something but he got the actual thing right there.

I was pissed because I'm waiting to get one for my kid who has a March birthday. I was hoping it would show up on eBay, but gave up looking because when I search iPad, I get a thousand results of morons hawking domain names.

Yeah, happend to me too. I ran into Steve Jobs in the street and asked for an ipad. He pulled one from his huge pocket and gave it to me. No box or instructions, but who cares? 30 minutes later I woke up...

Seriously now, if you're not making this up, then somebody pulled a trick on you. There is no way such a thing could have happened, especially when we're talking about Apple. Had it in some miraculously way occured, it would have been all over websites like this one long ago...

+1 100000% agreed. Pics or it didn't happen.

Well, I'm still looking, but I can tell you it was Feb. 9th, UK vs. Alabama at Rupp Arena, because it was the only game I went to. I didn't take pictures. I was in the upper deck anyway. It was 2 guys doing a shooting drill on each end of the court and the winner got the iPad. I should be able to find some evidence, but google or youtube has yet to give me anything. I'll keep trying. I have better things to do with my life than make s**t up and put it on the internet. I could be wrong, but I don't think so, because I too was shocked when I saw it.

I didn't say you're making this up, but look no further, it didn't happen. I wasn't there, so I can't say what did happen, but I'm 100% sure that nobody got an ipad.

BTW, maybe you really dreamed about it. I've seen crazier things happen because of dreams mistaken to be real... Back in college, a friend of mine attended the wrong class for a few weeks before realizing that he only enrolled to this class in his dreams.

Are you positive it was an ipad, not an iphone or ipod touch they were giving away? Or else it was a joke of some kind, like a fake ipad box or something?

I agree that its almost impossible they were giving out a real ipad, since Steve Jobs would go ballistic and probably make every apple computer on Kentucky's campus explode if this really happened.

I also googled it and found nothing, and if it was real it would have at least been on the mac rumor websites.

And it was worth it to him to pay ebay fees on a $900 sale for market research? I suppose...

Now that's something I hadn't thought of. I do have vivid dreams.

To ChrisZZZ & bodhi395, actually, I guess it could have been a fake box, but it was clearly an iPad box, not an iphone or ipod box. Even from the upper deck I was close enough that I could see the large size and a large picture on the front. The entire front of the box was the front picture of an iPad like on the Apple website. I've worn myself out googling and youtubing physical evidence, so I give up, for now. I hope everybody here who wants an iPad, gets one soon.

Fake. The pictures are obvious pictures taken from the event. Notice the Bokeh on the photographs, the lighting and the background. They indicate the pictures were stolen from some archive.

If he would have taken pictures of it with a dated newspaper and another picture with a MSNBC in the background showing the DOW/S&P and a few other shots then it would authenticate the offer much better.
