Google is finding ways to bypass these bs carriers and being able to update the individual components, very smart

Yeah, it is a very good idea. It makes Android really just a base OS and nothing more. I hope they make the appearance modular as well. That Italian site said that they found several references to "theme." If they separated out the look of Android as well, that would mean you could buy any carrier phone and turn it into an almost fully stock phone if it is version 4.4 or higher.

going back to the card topic.

Thing is, the card theme is nice but it's still holo with the blue accent highlighter. it's quite messy looking, i prefer the pressed button look. Or just make it like a light gray. So much ui changes for the future.

If the rumored leaks are correct, you'll be able to choose different color accents in KitKat.

That would be neat.

This would be pretty ingenious of Google to do.

And yes, it cannot be understated that Google updates their core apps individually. It means Android itself is always improving around the annual clock.

Even just recently, Google's updated Chrome, Chrome Beta, Maps, Gmail, Hangouts, Translate, Wallet, Keyboard, YouTube...

Wow. Amazing read.

It's basically what I've been saying, how the importance of Google updating individual apps cannot be understated.

Very very fascinating read.

marques brownlee thinks android will be available in the play store soon. He does have a point.

i would love to update my old samsung tab to the latest if it's possible. this would also be really good for root users.

That would be a pretty interesting idea. A whole operating system on the play store though? Or just a launcher of sorts?

I have to wonder why Google announced the version name so early. They still haven't shown it off and we are still waiting what it entails. If you're going to announcement a new OS version, at least show us what you got.

That would be incredible. Seriously. Much like how OS X software updates work, unhindered by carriers or OEMs, and supported by a larger range of devices. If Google doesn't do this I will now be majorly disappointed, lol.

After reading some leaks Im getting disappointed with 4.4. I expected much more than just another 4.2 similar update.

That's the thing. I point release usually means a few minor features added, which I would have expected, but certainly not so soon after 4.3 was just released. To top it off, they are now calling it KitKat so I'm not even sure what that means. I change the name of your OS on a point release?

Well it seems they didn't go to 5.0 because they are really trying to get rid of the fragmentation and are now going to have updates from the play store instead of waiting on carriers to send them to you.
That is going to be awesome. So now I get why they haven't had a big overhaul this time around to the OS but the major apps have. Android has still had a lot more major updates to their OS than iOS has.

I still don't quite understand what that means. Will Google release updates to the OS from the Play store apart of their apps? It would be awesome if they could add features to the OS of every phone directly from the store.

Yes, more or less that's exactly what it means.

Read the article posted above, it's very informative if (and this is a big if) Google ultimately decides to go this route which I believe they are.

This is yet another reason why android slightly edges out iOS for me. It's truly awesome.

Reports of Google smart watch launching along side kit kat. The prevailing theory being that it started as a Motorola project. Then Google took it over.

Interesting.

Taking into account that to do that you have to have all the drivers for the device and they usually are proprietary I highly doubt it.
