Why not? Yes, 4.1 to 4.2 to 4.3 were also only .1 updates but Google still considered them part of Jelly Bean, yet is offering an entirely new name for 4.4. I'd expect this update will be the most significant one since the last name change. I wouldn't expect a design overall either but my guess is this should be the most feature rich update since 4.0 to 4.1.

I feel the same way. They gave it a new name....it is obviously going to be a significant update with many changes....otherwise they would have left it JB.

So yes, I personally find it disgusting and prefer the skinned looks and functionality because they flat out are more pleasing to MY eyes. You are not required to agree but I really hope Google goes with the Google Now, Chrome theme, which is also featured in Hangouts and Maps.

Elements of iOS 7 actually remind me heavily of the bright pastel colours popular in the 80s:

(Drive is 80s inspired, not authentically 80s. ;))

Google have toned down things "Tron" wise quite a bit since honeycomb.

The new stuff Google have been pumping out app wise are some of the best yet IMO.
It's been good to see how much better they've gotten at app design.

Here’s a list of some of the things that are apparently coming to Google’s new OS version:

-Firmware availability to older phones
-Fragmentation changes (screen resizing)
-Miracast updates
-New Gallery Visualisation
-New APIs regarding animations
-Change android default blue to other preset palette colours
-New notification widgets

That should be interesting.

I think I'm the only person here who prefers the blue look.

I like it too.

Though I am also for the eventual card look too if it ever goes that way.

Anyway, the point is, with KitKat, there may be a choice to change color schemes. Choices for all!

If we're still stuck in that black+any color theme then I don't really get the point. The problem right now is the the black, not the blue.

Yeah I think so too. After the whole Hangouts thing, I started thinking that too. It sucks that he got banned though, I would have loved to hear what other information he had. That's just my selfish reasons though lol. :p

I miss his charming Thurston Howell lll personality ("No one can pull the wool over my eyes. Cashmere maybe, but wool, never.") --- always good for a giggle. :p

I don't see it.

I honestly see both Android and iOS 7 far more futuristic and modern looking than I do retro.

Just me, I guess.

The colour palette's a retro throwback, other than that, iOS 7 is pretty modern looking. The colours used for the iPhone 5C and its cases are quite retro too, they remind me heavily of the clashing colours you'd see on 80s wetsuits.

Apple has said it's a retro throwback? Just curious cause I'm still not seeing it. All I feel I'm seeing is some colors that match. Those colors exist today.

No, they haven't. I'm just pointing out that they're using colour combinations and colours that were common in the 80s. Of course those colours still exist today. :D

Where did you hear that?

And what does firmware availability to older phones mean exactly? That starting with 4.4 phones that come with it will be updated from Google regardless of manufacturers or something like that?

I also don't understand the fragmentation changes regarding screen sizes. What does it mean exactly too?

I don't see Google addressing fragmentation issues anytime soon frankly.

Firstly, (not necessarily directed at you, Sensamic) I think fragmentation is an overblown talking point that ultimately doesn't affect the end user as dramatically as Apple and others would want you to believe. Secondly, there are Nexus and GPE options available for people who do care about fragmentation and updates.

But here: "Addressing Android's fragmentation seen as first job for Google's Pichai"
http://www.computerworld.com/s/arti...tion_seen_as_first_job_for_Google_39_s_Pichai

And I don't remember off the top of my head, but didn't Google introduce a few things with API's and whatever that came with the 4.3 update that starts to help developers with fragmentation? I'm not a developer myself so I wasn't paying too much attention to this part of their presentation, but my understanding is they're already beginning to help address fragmentation on the software/developer level.
