I can't help but notice that more females carry iPhone and men seem to carry android. So has the iPhone become feminine? Is android more masculine?

I can't help but notice that you're making a sweeping generalization, based on your limited observations.

----------

I have not noticed this. I see plenty of women carrying Android smartphones.

So does my wife. And most of the women in my workplace.

I'm a girly girl. I have an android phone and tablet and an iPad and iPod touch. I just like technology. Apple devices do look cuter but for me the most important thing is functionality, not looks. Anyway that's what accessories are for :)

I know plenty of girls with android.

IMHO it is:

- iphone for people who want a phone, email and calendar plus a bunch of apps that just work
- android for those with an irrational hatred of apple or who want to spend a heap of time tweaking their phone "just because".

I'm in my mid thirties, I did the "spend heaps of time tweaking linux just because" in my late teens and twenties.

iOS does what I want without me having to screw around with it. No it doesn't do everything an android phone can do with some third party app, but the apps are all vetted and I basically don't have to concern myself with any of it. I do network security for a living at work. I *could* quite easily live with an android phone and go through all the tweaks to make it "awesome" or whatever, but I just am simply not interested. I have better things to do with my time.

They are both tools used to do a job. If the device does the job, i don't want to be wasting any time on tweaking it. For me, iOS does the job.

It takes one hour to set up android to exactly how you would like it. Small price to pay for what you get.

in the taint
Where I work, there is an equal amount or men and women, in every age group (18-60) and 90% are in a technical field. Most of the spaces are secure and require all phones to be left outside the rooms. I can walk down the hall and see everyone's phones and here is what I see:
A lot of iPhones, Samsung Galaxy and Note phones, a few HTC phones, one or two Windows phones and even the odd Motorola Droid and Blackberry. In other words, a direct reflection of market share numbers. There is no way to assign any sort of stereotypical label to any phone.

sorry but yes really. It might not be a 100% statistic but it's over 90% true

Made up statistic... What exactly makes someone tech savvy? What standards are you using? lol You can get a relatively cheap android phone without a contract. Doesn't mean most of the people buying them are tech savvy. They just want a cheap phone. There are so many reasons why people go with android or iOS. There may be some truth to it, but I highly doubt it's >90%.

I actually think that women might like Android more. I think they aren't as much into brand as guys are. So long as it works and it's cool they could care less.

iOs is great don't get me wrong. And one of the things that make it so great is its simplicity. The simplicity means people have much fewer technical choices when it comes to customizing their os. Most iphone owners I know use their phone for calls, texting, email, web browsing and camera. One touch easy peasy and that's it. Most android owners I know like to customize their experience which requires considerably more tech savvy

Phone customization does not make a person tech savy. Lets be real.

So being tech savy is defined by the level of phone customization one does in their life?

These are the most recent demographics.

http://m.marketingprofs.com/charts/2013/10957/how-iphone-and-android-ownership-varies-by-demographic

Shows 50/50 split with android/iPhone for women.

But the more important stat is income range. iPhone users tend to have higher income. And it's reflects how developers get paid.

Like the Costco model vs Walmart model. They both make a lot of money. But Costco has less stores but higher income members paying more each time they come in n

Your views you stated about Android are like iOS: outdated.

it's not a gender thing, it's a tech savvy thing.

tech savvy=android

not tech savvy=iphone
I'm a guy, 1/2 my job these days is programming and I happily use an iPhone... Go figure. But I do also tinker with my Nexus and with Linux.
