Mobile OSs Android is now the new king in smoothness and fastest mobile OS, and not iOS

Watching some YouTube videos of CyanogenMod 10 for the SGS3 and HTC One X I'm really really impressed. It looks like Android is now 2x faster and specially smoother. Just look at how fast apps open or how smooth scrolling is in the browser (it completely destroys Safari) and app drawer. It's really amazing.

IOS is smooth, but not to this point. I've been using iOS for 3 years and I can clearly tell it's not as smooth and fast as project butter.

I'll post some links so you guys can see how fast apps open. It's really amazing. Less than a second.

And the most impressive is that this are unofficial ports and betas. After watching them no one can deny anymore that Android 4.1 is faster than iOS. It's undeniable now.

So now that Android is faster and smoother, what will be the next big excuse for Android haters?

Android is clearly surpassing iOS. Now the new king of smoothness and faster mobile OS is Android and not iOS.

Also, the touch response on iOS is still tighter than Android, which is equally important, perhaps more so, than smooth transitions.ii

I will say that Android does appear to load applications quicker, but that may be attributed to the much more powerful processors in the devices you mentioned.

From my experience, the touch response of the SG3S is as good as an iP4S, if not better.

I'm sorry but Windows Phone 7.5 > all when it comes to touch response and fluidity from my experience.

It really is a joy to use and is extremely well optimised for the Snapdragon chip sets it runs on.

I just watched those videos right now and saw how fast and smooth Android 4.1 is and decided to share it because many people claim Android is not as fast or smooth as iOS. Well... now it seems it's faster and smoother, doesn't it? It's undeniable.

Just wanted to share the videos.

The thing is now Android is the new king in speed and fluidity. And those videos DO show it. Anyone with experience on both OS will immediately see the difference in the speed while watching the videos.

Sure it seems smoother and I admit that it is, but the thread title is deceiving. When you see the title, you expect to see some sort of test or something that proves Android is smoother, and not just links to two videos showing custom ROMs running on two Android devices. Everyone here knows custom ROMs are optimized and such, EVEN THOUGH Android 4.1 is already fairly smooth.

Yeah, look at the Nexus S running 4.1. It's pretty smooth, but of course the quad-core devices will load things faster. The Galaxy Nexus is running 4.1 and it's dual-core. Just search YouTube.

Not true, actually. It ramps the CPU up when the user touches the screen, and anticipates touch, but that whole touch input not being the priority was a big fallacy.

I've used every platform, and I can say that the iPhone 4s clearly has the best touch response and finger tracking. It really does. Windows phone comes close (except for the Lumia 900), and Android might be smooth, but it just can't track your finger as tightly as iOS.

Jelly Bean hiccups on my GSM Galaxy Nexus. Certain things are faster and "butterier" like when opening apps, or when hitting the App Switcher menu. But in terms of smoothness, honestly, ICS was smoother. After exiting an app, if you try to swipe between home screens right away, there's a very noticeable hiccup, like the frame rate is skipping a few beats, on that first swipe. This might be "micro-lag" that I've been reading about (not positive I understand that term).

To be honest, I feel JB is a downgrade in some ways. The keyboard has taken a huge step backwards, and Project Butter is overhyped. The differences between JB and iOS are negligible but that's only because iOS isn't perfect either. There's noticeable lag on iOS when opening folders sometimes, or when scrolling through certain things too, but these things seem to occur less frequently on iOS than on JB. On JB, I can actively recreate that "micro-lag" after exiting an app and swiping right away (also works when opening the app drawer and swiping immediately. That first swipe from the first page to the next hiccups every so slightly).

EDIT: Not sure how JB is on a Nexus 7 though.

iOS is not necessarily much smoother, but it's more consistently smooth. That's not to say iOS doesn't hiccup either. There's noticeable lag when opening folders sometimes, or when scrolling through certain things.

I would attribute folder lag to the device. My 4S opens folders almost instantly as does my iPad. My iPod touch 4th gen (before I got rid of it) opened it fast, but not as instantly. My iPod touch 2nd gen opened them about a second after tapping it and lagged upon opening.

I've seen folder lag on my 4S, and still see folder lag once in a blue moon on my iPad 3rd Gen.

Not to mention, on my 4S, I've also seen missing icons (this is super rare, but it happened once), and had a few freezes (most noticeably when swiping to unlock the phone. It's frozen on my a few times -- again, usually rare -- on the lock screen. Requires a hard reset).

iOS isn't perfect. That's all I'm saying. And JB isn't better than iOS if you want to talk smoothness.

My iPad 1 does have lag on iOS 5.1.1. Probably due to the old A4 and low ram.

I remember the problems of lag the 3GS users complaint about when iOS 5 was released, and Apple fix it with the following update.

On iOS and Android there's a minimum hardware requirement to experience this smoothness.

JB may have small lag on the nexus due to the poor chip and old GPU.

What I see on those YouTube videos I posted is incredibly fast and no lag whatsoever. Of course, they have quad core and 1GB ram. It just looks amazing. Apps open in less than a second. In my iPad it takes 1.5 or 2 seconds to open any app (5 to 6 if it's ibooks).

I am running CM10 on my GS3, and just sold my GNex yesterday. The feature I like the most in Jellybean is Google Now. I love how it's useful without me actively using it. It keeps me up to date on the Braves, it tells me when to leave the house to be on time, it makes decent suggestions on places to eat. So far it's been a pleasure to have.

Agreed. Been running CM10 on my SGS2 for a day or so and Google Now is pretty nifty. Also loving the new notifications.

Surprisingly enough it is stable enough to use as a daily driver. I was comfortable enough with it that I sold my GNex 2 days ago. There are a couple very minor bugs here and there, but overall it runs very well and with hardly an issues. Cyanogen stated he also uses it as his daily driver too.
