Android is still way superior

Started impressed with iOS 7 but then kind of don't like it.

Still no iFile? The new Siri look is ugly and confusing and had very little new features.

The home screen is so so so ugly, as the photos app and calendar app.

Safari still doesn't allow for downloads?

Lockscreen has no new features really apart from access to notification and control center. That's all?

No new features for personalization. Nothing at all. Couldn't they add themes if you don't like the new look?

And what about gesture for multitasking? We still have to use the damn home button?

No new features for maps apart from walking directions? Really? A whole year and that's all?

People in the audience where so desperate for a change they got up and applauded and someone shouted love you to Tim Cook.

No new features for keyboard? No swipe?

Obviously they couldn't do everything in one year and release, but they're still pretty behind the competition.

Is this gonna be the real look of iOS for the next 5 years?

I was not impressed. I wanted to be, but just wasn't.

I like how Tim Cook, or whoever, says most Android users are on Android from 2010. That's because most don't use Nexus and don't get updates right away from their carriers. He's right, but it's very misleading. Compare iPhone to the Nexus line and the percentage will be much different. Course Nexus will have a smaller market share compared to the iPhone no doubt.

Besides that, it's just more catch up. Animated weather? Been done.

Removed 8 tab limit on Safari? I have at least 10 tabs open right now on my Nexus 7.

There's more, but I'm not go into all.

Enough of how sexy iOS is. Looks aren't everything.

I'm sure the iOS 7 is a fine OS, but it's playing catch up to Android. Plain and simple. I'm not gonna turn the blind eye when Apple has lost it's edge with iOS. Last year I was iFanBoy, but saw Android and gave it chance. Been using Android for almost a year now and it works great for me. No lag, always getting updates since I'm using Nexus, great features, and it's awesome plastic body!

I thought that, from what I saw, iOS7 looks really good with some excellent functionality. Upcoming hardware is, of course, the other side of the equation but if I had purchased an iPhone 5 I would be pretty excited.

Yeah.

It's still a bunch of icons put together. So we can pretty much assume the home is gonna stay the same for the next couple of years too.

Hey, at least now there's no limit to icons per folder!!! We only had to wait until iOS 7 for that!!

I would say that is true if we were on an actual android forum, but most of us own apple products. I was impressed, but I would assume they highlighted the major features in the keynote. The overall layout is much better I just thought they would open up the customization of homescreens.

I don't think it is any secret that android has much more fragmentation than IOS no matter how you spin it.

iOS 7 looks absolutely fantastic for those of us who like iOS. All this nonsense about copying is absurd. Did Google copy Apple when they released Play Games at I/O this year? Apple has had Game Center for a while.....

The answer is, of course, no. Each OS does these tasks differently. Each has its own identity and philosophy. If you don't like the way Apple does iOS, you have Android - there really isn't any more to it.

Basically, this thread is nonsense. Trolls will be trolls I suppose.....

I had very low expectations, considering the past few versions of iOS and the snails pace that Apple adds functionality. With that, I have to admit I was somewhat pleasantly surprised with iOS 7. Of course, opinions will vary widely but I personally like the design direction they've implemented--further judgement once I get some hands-on time. And yes, Android still offers much greater functionality, flexibility, and customization but Apple finally added some much needed features (control panel--hallelujah!!, expanded multitasking, improved Safari, AirDrop) and some new nice-to-haves ( expanded Siri, in-car iOS, some guesture based functionality, improved photo app, iTunes Radio). In fact, iTunes Radio completely ad-free (with unlimited skipping, I'm assuming) for $25/year is a bargain compared to some competitors.

Yes, many of the features work best (or only) for those ensconced in the Apple ecosystem. And there was no way they were going to bring down the 'walls of the garden', so to speak, but I feel it's a pretty good start. That being said, they still have a ways to go--here's hoping we see more than the typical incremental changes next year with iOS 8.

Today's presentation confirmed that I made the right choice to move away from iPhone/Touch to the SG S4. Android's ecosystem, their 5" screen and my 80GB storage now gets my vote for the next 12 months.

Android may be better in terms of what the different brands offer in hardware but NOTHING beats the apps in iOS.

I have a Nexus 4 and a 7 and in my opinion, the hardware is nothing if the apps are half baked.

This is good for dedicated iOS users. It's about time something like Control Center came out. I also am impressed with Activation Lock to deter the rising iPhone thefts. I also do really like the new "transparent" look. It definitely modernizes iOS.

I'm disappointed by a few things:

Shocked (sort of...) to see no update to the age-old keyboard.

Sad there's no improvements to notification banners (I still don't know how anyone finds it acceptable that a banner drops down and interrupts whatever's going on on-screen by blocking the top of the screen for a few seconds.)

Disappointed there are no changes to the general layout of iOS (dynamic icons/widgets may never ever come), though this last one, obviously, I wasn't surprised by.

Overall, though, good update for iOS users.

Already preferred iOS, the gap has just widened further for me. Really like the new UI. Didnt realise I wanted a new UI until I saw it looks great.

One of my favourite new features is the ability for others to add photos to a shared photo stream

I agree. I think there are some much needed changes that were shown. No matter what Apple does people will hate, but there is one thing that will not change. iPhones and idevices are going to sell like crazy. Lets just wait to see what this is like when it is released. We still have a while, and also see what the next iPhone will be. Hating already is just stupid. You have not even played with the OS yet.
