I wouldn't include WP in your statement. While all phones may 'eventually' get updated, carriers are just as slow as they are with Android. I have T-Mobile and I 'just' got the Cyan update on my 925.

And Google has abandoned several apps over the years. Zeitgeist, Authenticator, Google TV remote, and Voice Search to name a few. I didn't realize outdated or even defunct apps made for things that no longer exist required Google to keep updating them forever?

My work iPhone 6 got bricked by a corrupt IOS update so I am on a temp. Lumia 625 and I completely forgot that it runs still the dev preview of 8.1 because it just works.

Only times I had funny bugs is with IOS and Android. Having said that - I still wouldn't use an iPhone for my private phone anymore .. Still prefer Android ..

I am completely happy to stay on 4.4 and am in no rush to upgrade my phone. Google changed a lot of what DIDN'T need to be changed. Elegant perhaps, but not quite as intuitive. And the white app drawer is annoying. They should at least include a dark mode with the next update.

4.4 was a perfect example of "if it ain't broke don't fix it"

I like material design for the most part but not at the expense of functionality.

The single biggest annoyance is the pull down menu. It is difficult b.c the double gestures

Agree with some of the points made - the pull down bugs me too. Also using it at night in a dark room burns my eyes!

However. I think a lot of these issues will be fixed relatively quickly. Android 5 is such a huge step up for Google - they have moved in a completely new direction and made a wonderful OS. It's no longer just an OS for techies. I've no doubt it will be refined over time, pull back a little here, push forward a little there.

Liking it a lot. Looking forward to how it settles down and evolves over time.

I doubt there such a thing as bricking an iPhone because of an update anymore as of what iPhone OS 3?

Put it in DFU mode and restore an ipsw file.

If it isn't bricked, then call it kaputt, non-working, paper weight or whatever lol. It is a work phone, it stops working after an update so it goes back to our provider and I let them deal with it. We don't even pay for iPhones so I couldn't care less. Just waiting for my Moto G with Dual SIM (work and private) so they can keep that paper weight :)

Most of which are folks that couldn't wait for OTA's and flashed disc images. I'll bet $ that they didn't clear cache/dalvik, or many may have flashed the wrong Nexus 7 image since that's where many of the complaints are centered.

"Oh, I bought my tablet in 2013 I think so I'll flash that image since it's newer to my 2012 Nexus 7"

But that said? That thread has 90 authors. Installed base is probably in the millions.

My biggest nitpick is that I have a Nexus 5 and still have not received the OTA update...I'm tired of being patient.

I got it, and I regret to have done the update. I posted some of my dislikes before:

  • Double unlock. First you need to touch unlock the screen, then do the code unlock.
  • No more flight and silent mode from the power button. Silent mode now needs Power > Vol down. Flight mode needs Power > page down > flight mode
  • Even in silent mode it vibrates. At night I have to switch to flight mode.
  • email client got terminated. Is now Gmail. You need to open Gmail and need several clicks to get to your individual email accounts in case you have several. Some settings got lost and most email accounts don't work now and need to be setup fresh. Some accounts can d/l mail because of SSL error, although send works. (Update: I am trying currently BlueMail and K9-Mail, both work, not sure which one I will finally keep)

----------

It's an Android OS. Lag is a given.

Not as bad as iOS. Nexus 5 on 4.4.4 was lightning fast. On 5.0.0 is still is, it may look slower because of the animated screen. Is it that what you were referring to? Or is it that you have no clue what you are talking about?

Lollipop hasn't exactly hit 5.0.4 yet. Still a work in progress. KitKat was the same way a year ago, and visually it wasn't a huge departure from Jelly Bean 4.3. It takes about 2-3 minor updates after six months or so to iron out all the initial bugs.

Out of nowhere myself and many others have noticed that "none" is actually functioning like silent mode of the past. I don't know what caused the change, but it works normal now :)

Yes, yes, yes. But one expects to have errors in new functions. Silent mode ain't that new. And the you-know-gmail-is-so-much-better-that-we-scrap-the-mail-client-for-so-be-grateful attitude it's something that you expect usually from Apple.

iOS 7+ is SIGNIFICANTLY laggier than Lollipop. Gone are the "old iOS" 60fps animations and perfect list scrolling and small stutters are quite common.

Uh maybe if you use an iPhone 4S. There's no FPS lag whatsoever on my iPhone 6.

I dunno, somewhere in West Texas
Just got through updating my mom's Nexus 5 to lollipop and I must say that I'm mighty impressed with the new visuals. At first it seemed to stutter but I guess it was just updating apps because after that it was silky smooth. Don't care for the white app drawer and the icons are still abnormally large. A launcher can fix that. I definitely can't wait till I get the Nexus 6.

Occasionally there will always be some stutter or lag on every mobile device. Even on my brand new iPad Air 2, I can get some stutter on the Apple.com website of all places! Just one example.

Please don't pretend like Apple is this picture perfect OS with magical properties. You aren't going to fool anyone on here. Go to the AI forums if you want to talk with fanatical Apple cultists.

I'm still getting the feel of this. Haven't found anything too annoying yet other than figuring out how to swipe for the phone app and to just get to the home screen.

I still am waiting to get the update on my Nexus 7, Got it on my Nexus 4 two days ago so it shouldn't be too much longer.

Oh, duck! I didn't notice that one!

But found one more annoyance:

All Chrome Tabs are now in the task list. You can't close Chrome with open tabs - you need to close all tabs. However, I like to close Crome and leave some tabs open.

Lollipop is a total disaster! Did Apple infiltrate the Android development team?
