People familiar with both TouchWiz (S7 Edge or later) and Android Nougat, can you comment on what you feel is better?
I'm a TouchWiz fan for its features, but Nougat is introducing many of the same ones finally and a few extra goodies (like the "alt-tab" app switching with the quick double press of the app switcher button).
What's the feedback and general verdict between the two?
Here's a fairly comprehensive and spot on take on Nougat from the Verge (wierdly been saying that a lot on this sub forum lately
)
Android 7.0 Nougat review: great, but does it matter?
I haven't used TouchWiz on the newest flagship for any significant time so I won't presume to offer an opinion on what's better in a direction comparison but rather my feelings about stock Nougat. I've clearly stated in the past that I prefer stock Android and Nougat has done nothing to change that opinion, yet.
The multi-tasking works well enough and should offer more options than what's found on Samsung since the available app choices hasn't grown considerable over the years. No pop-up window option though so if that's something you use, won't find it on Nougat. I personally find using multiple apps on such a small screen less than ideal, to put it diplomatically
, but am glad to see it make Android tablets (or at least the Pixel C) far more useful. The double tap to switch apps is a great addition though.
I also prefer the quick setting tray and notification panel in stock and it's much improved in Nougat. I love the smaller size, how they stack and offer quick actions.
I like how you can now adjust display size (scaling, not resolution) and font size system wide.
I also agree with the Verge author's take on Google search, Google Now, and Now on Tap . They can be such a powerful but Google seems to be letting them languish on the vine, and I find Now on Tap a useless gimmick. I have my fingers crossed that we're going to see some major changes with the rollout of Google Assistant, and that's why Google search/Now hasn't improved.
Can't comment on whether Doze has improved noticeably as my 6P isn't my current daily driver.
Overall, seems solid but I'm going to wait until Google releases all the new features and functionality announced at I/O (Assistant, Allo/Duo, Google Home and Android Wear 3.0) before I dive back in fully to see if all of the changes could lure me back from iOS. Throw in a really well built 2-in-1 iPad Pro/Samsung TabPro S type Chromeback and I'd be seriously enticed.
