Android: Video is too large for MMS is a freakin joke

So you have to switch to a different app to message, video conference, share photos, etc. I suppose what is an inconvenience to some isn't a big deal to others, but for myself that would be very inconvenient.

You'd have to do so on any device unless you were able to convert every person you communicate with to one app.....

The people I communicate with would use the stock options of any device they used for the most part because it's the simplest. It just so happens Apple's stock apps are more robust than Android's across the board.

That's what I was getting at.

Yeah, true except in the case of MMS which is standard. iMessage seems to be a pita to use with non iOS users, I had a ton of issues with it, especially with group messaging and it's extremely buggy if you don't turn it off when switching your account to a non iOS phone.

Video conferencing I don't think there is a carrier standard, so you would have hangouts versus Skype versus facetime. I'm assuming you can share photos from photostream like you can with say OneDrive, where you can just send a link to the photo or to the folder? But yeah probably somewhat proprietary in each solution if you want to remotely view your photos.

Apples stock apps are definitely more robust, hence the reason I started the thread. Although during the course of the thread I found out that the stock Samsung and/or android messaging app accomplishes what I needed so my own argument isn't totally valid anymore, it should be retitled to mention Hangouts specifically. I don't think it's a commanding lead though. I don't see iMessage, Photostream, Facetime, etc as more than minimally better than other stock apps.

I've heard about that iMessage issue, but I've never actually experienced it and I switch phones constantly. Perhaps because I always have an iPhone active (work number) it doesn't affect me?

I don't believe so with PhotoStream....at least not yet. But one can easily upload photos to DropBox or any of the cloud services (I have them all on my iOS devices) and share that way. Sharing via PhotoStream or AirDrop with other iOS users is far better though IMO,

Yeah if you don't expressly turn off imessage and switch to a non iOS phone you don't receive messages from imessage users. It's happened to my wife and myself and Apple care is completely clueless to fix it. My wife actually switched back to her old iPhone 5 and STILL had that stupid bug and after an hour with Apple and AT&T we decided just to turn her imessage off.

edit: I'm probably just hooked on what I use every day, but automatic uploading of my photos to OneDrive and sharing is very easy and very robust especially on a full PC or tablet. It's also mostly platform agnostic, works just as well on iOS as android and WP, and OSX, Win8, etc to boot.

You guys do know you can use another SMS app right? Textra is pretty good and lets you send multiiple pics. I cant say about video as i hardly ever do it so i cant recall how Textra handles that but it is a good SMS App.

Hangouts is getting better and i dont know why they cant have these things out of the gate instead of us still waiting but there are othe alternatives. When it is finally fixed, it will be a great app though.

Yeah I think half the thread is the pros and cons of using non stock apps.
