My colleague told me he saw the new Apple Watch ad with kids dancing and forming a circle with their watch-laden wrists.
It's the Android ad!
WatchAware says great for Apple and I tend to agree.
Thoughts, anyone?

Its great for smart watches in general. It brings more awareness to the product category. I really like the commercial. Competition will only bring innovation, for both sides. 19 days until preorder!

Now let me get this right... Apple is using an Android ad? Wow that is interesting. I guess not all items that are android are bad. I'm sure when android did it someone here said it was dumb, but now Apple did it, it has got to be great:)

What??????
Are you on crazy pills?

I believe the OP is saying that some people are MISTAKENLY thinking an Android ad is for Apple Watch. Just like some of the Surface ads seemed to show the iPad in a way that didn't make it look bad, like they were attempting. The point here is that, competitors apparently can't help but accidentally promote Apple products in their own ads.
Nobody here thinks that Apple is "using" an Android ad, nor that Android "did it", but it was dumb... Did what, exactly?? Are you saying that there's an Apple commercial that seems to be promoting Android? If so... please show it.

I literally understood 0% of your post.

First, just because one person misinterpreted the ad is meaningless. Even if more people do it's still meaningless.

Here's why, there's a very common phenomenon that repeats itself year after.year. That's where people remember a certain ad that's well done, yet the greater majority cannot remember the brand OR the product the ad was for.

This ad tends to fall into that category. It's an upbeat fun ad, even if its a little silly but it's memorable for what it is.

Why be so bloody serious and think they're bashing Apple? Manufacturers routinely make fun of their competitors...it's a tradition, and it's no big deal.

Thanks to @Esoom for posting a link to the ad so those of us too lazy to search for it could watch.

It was annoying but I also don't see how anyone can confuse that for an apple commercial.

Nice to see they can choose between shapes....

Obviously they're taking a jab at the apple watch all being the same single style, but putting smart watches out there, and making them "cool" or fashionable works out for everyone. The more people that accept smart watches in general, the more push we'll have for more amazing apps and hardware updates. If the general population doesn't accept them, they'll simply fade away in a couple years.

THAT did not make me want the product. It looked like a cheap toy with a glowing screen for kids. The Apple Watch commercial makes me want it.

I actually enjoyed seeing the different colour combos/straps in the advert, if only to help me choose an Apple Watch model lol.
People, no need for the Android hate... Buy whatever fits your needs best.

That commercial did not show me anything that it did. I would not have been fully sure it was a watch ad if I did not know beforehand. I did not learn enough about the watch to either like or dislike what it does.

Yep, that's my issue with it as well. It says nothing about what I can do with it or why I would want one to begin with. One may as well replace the "Android Wear" at the end for "United Colors of Benetton" and it would have been basically the same.

I think it's fine, interesting to see the demographic they're going after, pretty young...

Apple is going after deeper pockets and women, which I think is a good move.

Was interesting to see a couple of watches which are not even out yet (the last two in the list going clockwise from upper left):

  • Upper left = Moto 360
  • Upper right = Asus Zen
  • Lower right = LG Urbane
  • Lower left = Huawei Watch

I love how that commercial doesn't actually show any of the Android watches up close and just distracts viewers with the hand movements of the wearers.

I personally didn't like it. I love Apple's ad mainly because of the music they used, it just made it seem so fun!

Android's entire "Be Together. Not the same." ad campaign makes me want to shoot myself, and the Wear variant of it is no different.

That said, I'm not a fan of the music or the format of the Apple Watch ad. Especially using those renders of the product in the first part of the commercial. I hate them: they make the watch look fake and bloated. It amazes me that Apple hasn't created something that looks more like the physical product, because the physical product is gorgeous by way of comparison.

I agree with you on the renders vs real physical product. You're right, it genuinely looks far better as a real physical product than any of the renders. They should have showcased it as the actual physical device in all of the marketing.

This.

It's understandable that they use renders because filming in macro is hard. But Apple makes (well, whoever they call) such good movies with that technique that shouldn't be a problem...

Heck, they could have used Jony's footage from the construction... now that's pumping!

I did like their tagline of 'Wear what you Want' because I WANT to wear an Apple Watch. The Stainless Steel with Link is a nice looking watch.
