Android's answer to iMessage/BBM?

I don't know anyone that uses whatsapp. Not a single soul.

It's either Facebook messenger, hangouts or imessage.

Well, here in Italy whatsapp is quite common ... Surely more than hangouts

Hangouts is getting an update this week and its supposed to upgrade it so its more integrated and do more things that people want. I cant give details but i think it merges things into a single thread. I read it hours ago and skimmed thru it but there is a APK out already if you want it now.

Whatsapp is hugely popular and nearly all my friends use it daily. It has a better group messaging capability than iMessage but I do use both. Not sure what the Facebook buy out will do to Whatsapp as I've seen some screen shots around the net and it looks worryingly like Facebook messenger with a revised layout. I hope for one they keep it simple and don't over complicate it as it has gained popularity due to it being an SMS equivalent messenger, rather than having a social media influence until now.

Facebook didn't really mess with Instagram that much, so really hoping that they don't mess with WhatsApp.

It could use a bit of improvement here/there but it function perfectly well as it is. Much better than iMessage, in my opinion.
