Even if this is the case, the popup is very intrusive—you have to wait for it to go away to continue what it was you were doing. There is no need for the “Connecting...” message to commandeer the device's screen in the meantime. My iPhone doesn't do this, my MacBook doesn't do this, my PS3 dosen't do this, why must my iPad? I've never used any WiFi-connected device that ever behaved in this way. It's simply a very jarring, clumsy and ill-designed aspect of the experience, particularly when one considers how much more seamless it is to use an iPad otherwise.

This is a software glitch, mine just started doing this in the past week an I've had mine since the first released batch of 3G models. I also have a very good router.:)

It's a software bug. Apple has gone on record that a future iPad update will address wifi reliability.

Yes that's the point though.....

Apple acknowledged this 6 weeks ago , shortly after the release of the WiFi iPad. Issues with connectivity should be a major concern for Apple. They need to get off their collective azz and get it done already

Was suffering this until today when I suddenly figured out what was going on. My iPad has login info for both 2.4 and 5ghz networks in my house. For whatever reason it'd sometimes switch between them and I'd get the connecting popup. Wasn't dropping signal from what I could see, maybe one was giving a better signal than the other and it auto switched or something. Anyway, removed login for the 2.4ghz network and it's been perfect ever since. Might help someone.
