Roll Tide
I’ve noticed, since I updated to iOS 12 (I’m running 12.1), that the mail app doesn’t work as fast loading emails and sometimes I can delete an email, close the app, then come back to the app and that same email be in my inbox. I have also noticed before that I can read an email exit the app then come back to the app and that email be marked as new. This happens on my iPad and iPhone, so I’m not sure if it is my WiFi or is it something anyone else experiences with iOS 12? I don’t recall having these issues with iOS 11, but it surprises me how slow the app is at loading emails. This makes me think it’s my internet connection, but the other things I’m not sure about.

There are quite a few things that seem slower in 12.1 on my iPhone 8 Plus and iPad Pro 9.7". Particularly in email.

I am experiencing the same with 12.1 and Mail on my 7+. No difference between LTE or WiFi.
Did you test a 3rd party mail app yet?

I have the same issue and sometimes it will show I have a new email and when I open the app its not there, takes a good 20 seconds or so to show up, quite annoying.

I’ve noticed since iOS 12 in general in my iOS Mail app I’ll delete emails then an hour later they will reappear unread in my Inbox again.

Yes., and it doesn’t happen there.
I’m wondering if it has to do with the mail service I use. I use AOL and am one of those who used Verizon and got migrated to AOL. Over the past month a number of weird things have happened. The server stops accepting logins and then randomly starts again, sometimes over a day later. And sometimes it seems the entire inbox is re-downloaded.
This is only happening on iOS devices and not MacOS. And it’s happening on two iPhones and an iPad.
In my setup I have also have Mail connected to iCloud accounts and those seem unaffected.
I’ve also seen very brief mention of aol having login problems but can’t find any details of what’s been going on with them.

I have been on aol for many, many years. So maybe it’s an aol server problem? Idk

These problems are on my iPhone and iPad. My Mac mini I enter my password for aol and it says it’s incorrect so right now I don’t even bother with email on my Mini.

So, I wanted to update. I finally talked with customer service. They walked me through some things and asked a bunch of questions. Finally they told me it was an aol problem and if it continued, I needed to talk with them. I told them people were having issues not just on aol, so I doubt anything will get fixed since they think it’s an aol problem.

The most frustrating issue for me with mail, as advanced as it is, is the lack of signature support (specifically images in the signature). Also, certain text & images in the body of messages I create do not show up embedded to Outlook recipients.

Knock me down & call me a noob if I'm the only one.

Well, good to see I'm not the only one having this issue. Maybe I'll just change all my account to use iCloud as my email. It seems to be an issue with my Mac and my iPhone. I thought maybe it was just an AOL issue, but it sounds like it is worse. Ugh.
[doublepost=1543444639][/doublepost]Just noticed, it is happening w/ iCloud mail too. I had to open the app and refresh to get the mail. That one came through on my Mac quickly though.

Seeing the same issues as others here. Also opening mail notifications from the lock screen does not open the email itself, it just opens the Mail app to inbox.

Switched to a third-party mail app and everything is working as it should. So there are definitely some serious issues with the iOS Mail app.

Try the Microsoft Outlook email app. I use it exclusively and have had no issues on 12.1

I use the outlook app for my school email, and it does work a lot better than the Apple one. I can’t figure out how to get my emails to upload automatically without having to open the app and will it work with an aol account?

It should work with an AOL account. I use it for my work (Office 365), personal (Hotmail), and also iCloud with no issues. By default, it uploads and downloads automatically for me. Ensure you have background refresh turned on in Settings for Outlook.

I have downloaded a different app, but it won’t add my account. It says my username or password is incorrect, which it is not. The login info works on aol as well as the Apple mail app. But it won’t add it to the new mail app nor will it work on my Mac mini. On my mini it says it can’t verify my login details.

Would this be an aol problem or Apple problem?

I don't use AOL, but if you have two factor authentication setup on your AOL account, then that could be a problem. When using two factor authentication, you must create what's called an app password via your AOL account to use within the app. Microsoft and Apple both do this for Outlook.com and iCloud email when you are using 3rd party email clients and have two factor authentication turned on.

That’s the thing I don’t have it turned on. When I called aol that’s the first thing they asked. And we verified it was turned off. I have been having lots of problems with aol recently, so I think it’s about time to change. And you can’t get technical support unless you are a paying member. The free account doesn’t qualify for technical support.

Is it hard to switch email providers? I’ve been on aol since high school. All my online accounts use this email, so I don’t know how big a headache it would be to switch. I’m thinking about going to gmail.

If it helps anyone having issues with the default Mail app in iOS12; I've been using the Outlook app (for my O365 work email) and Spark (for iCloud, GMail and @outlook.com accounts) and both apps have been working flawlessly. I have since deleted Apple's Mail app but will try it again after the next iOS point update.

Edit: 12.1.1 did not fix the Mail issues for me. So I’m back to using a third party mail client. This time I started using one called Email (Edison Mail) and I’m really impressed. It’s even better than Spark.
