I really need to print out a set of these so I can finally decide which size to get.

Also these price people are crazy, stop listening to gruber. There is no way the SS version with sport band is going to be the 750-1000 that gruber is talking.

I agree Gruber's opinion on this is retarded imo. Apple's history of pricing is there for us all to see, in black and white: Look at iPod pricing, look at iPad pricing, look iPhone pricing, look at macbook pricing.

They have attainable steps for people to upgrade to. $100 in most cases, especially in the lesser priced tech like apple watch/ipad/ipod. Apple's own history does not support the rumored prices, regardless of Gruber's opinion.

If it only cost Apple $12 more to make a SS apple watch and they can charge you $100 more, would that BE IN THEIR BEST INTEREST? an attainable upgrade that many will opt for. going from $350 to $999 is basically sacrificing profit. The average Joe that walks into an Apple store, not US, is not going to consider a steel-versus-aluminum to be a $650 upgrade. that's a joke and an insult.

Solid gold, sure, that's going to cost more. I have no idea where this prices would start.

That's conjecture. Might be only $100-200 more.

Not if Gruber's pricing estimates are right (which he doubled down on). I believe he said the cheapest SS model would start at $749.

Exactly. If the cheapest SS model is over $700 then I have to question who was involved in pricing and what they were smoking or if Jony Ive came up with those prices after leaving a bar late one night.

And many of us are doubting him. He's even upping his estimate of the Edition models to $10,000.

He's also of the opinion that the leather bands would be more expensive than the Milanese Loop.

lol, I hope he's right on that one. I was picking the black leather band as a plan B if the Milanese Loop was too pricey. We'll see soon I guess.

How does Apple upsell someone to a SS watch with Sport band if it's $300-$400 more than its aluminum counterpart?

Those who tried both on at the event at September said that the SS is significantly heavier than the sport. Maybe they stress "build quality"? Not saying that the SS is built better, but if it feels more substantial they might be able to upsell that way.

Another thought I had - no idea how feasible/possible it is, but what if Sport starts with 8GB memory and SS starts at 16GB and Edition starts at 32GB?

Indeed yes, that is a good point.

Such "specs" have not been spoken about yet, and Apple may indeed use things such as memory or other ideas, which cost them little in reality, to more easily justify why you should spend a LOT more on one watch over another, more than just the metal case.

Put it this way.

Apple WANT you to buy the Stainless Steel version.
Companies often do this, they have the cheap base model, but they add extras into the next model up, the mid one, and price it at a point where they know many customers will say oh to hell with it, I'll spend the extra to get the next model up due to X, Y, Z being better.

Unless the pricing is VERY close, and as this is just the 1st gen model, I would not be surprised if there is not some additional plus point, we don't yet know about to put more pressure on to go for the stainless one, over just buying the cheapest model for now, as there is no real difference in any of them.

Won't be long and we'll find all this out.

Unless the Stainless is only perhaps $100 more, then they'd not need any additional sweeteners, as it would be close enough anyway.

You might be right about build quality but I'm not sure if that's enough. I hope they don't do anything storage wise. What's great about the watch (as we know it) is there is no discrimination other than materials. Apple can say this product is for everybody because whether you spend $349 or a lot more you get the same features/capabilities. I still think Apple will need to do something to justify the higher price points but I think it should be around service not device tech/features.

I think itll go like this:

Watch Sport will come in 2 varieties: 38 with sport band for $349 and 42 with sport band for $379/$399 max. Thats it. No doubt itll support more costly bands, but there wont be an option to buy them together at launch. Sport will be like the 8gb 5c is now, bare bones and the cheapest option available.

Watch will probably start at $499 for $38mm with the most basic band, and tack on $50-$80 for the next band up, along with $30-$50 for 42mm instead of 38.

Watch Edition will be a ludicrously expensive option aimed at those who spend thousands on a rolex or omega and think nothing of it.
