Not to worry you were on topic. Worrying about something like that qualifies for being anal.

Hope your not referring to me. I don't care about the dent as long as the mic and screen are fine. I have taken two back. First one had a dead pixel, second one kept droping wifi every 5 minutes. So far this iPad has had no problems and for some reason I think the dent is cool. If it was a dent I caused, I would be mad about it. To me a defect is kind of cool to have if it doesn't effect function.

I had a couple that came with small marks on the aluminum right out of the box. This occurred with my macbook pro as well. It looks to be from the machining process. In regards to a "dent," I had never seen one right out of the box.

The only thing i would do is go in and get it documented so that they don't try to deny service in the future based on it looking like it was abused.

I took my Speck Candy shell off to check mine and i don't have a dent. I think i have what the other guys has, but I'd have to break out the macro lens or a magnifying glass to check :D

Looking at that picture on the previous page, it almost looks as though the mic hole has been drilled and then countersunk. But on the other hand, I'm by no means a qualified metalworker.

Drilled, chamfered, bead blasted. Holes in the case appear broached. The connector slot is nicely chamfered.

The shell itself appears to be press formed, chemically etched, bead blasted, and then given a light anodize.

The temper condition is probably fairly low but I don't feel like acid and spark testing my device to determine the alloy. It's probably 6000 series and based on the denting reports, F condition on temper. Basically dead soft for a 6k series alloy.
