well I can account pretty easily for at figure at least 1k of it that extra 1700 is going to be in the hard drive alone. The other 700 well it does have a graphic card and a better monitor.

but yeah 3k laptop is in a very different playing field that 1300 laptop. Of course the Sony one is a better laptop but it also cost more and you pay more you get a better computer simple as that.

Any company that licenses their OS universally has no actual respect for their product. And it shows.

And as you type, gravity and the forces imparted by your hand will push the display towards you. Used on your lap, the weight of the unit will be supported by the thin ridge of the display.

Last I recall, Apple uses a lot of the same chipsets as the other manufacturers at higher prices. Although a lot of those price differentials are caused by computer manufacturers prepackaging trial software. Seriously, GayOL and CompuServe were the biggest offenders in the 1990's.

yeah. Sony learned those days and I wish more would follow suit and allow "clean slate" install of computers.

Clean slate being when you turn on the computer for the first time all OEM has installed on it is the OS and the drivers for the hardware. All other software you have to install yourself with the supplied disk.

That I think was one of my favorite things about the computer I built in 2004 was the only things that were installed on it was the stuff I wanted. It was install OS, drivers and then basic software I wanted then over the next few weeks everything else I need/want is installed at an as need bases.
For me a windows computer install goes

OS
Drivers
AV software
OS updates
Chrome/Firefox
Office
PDF reader

That old desktop of mine from the reformat I did in Janurary it still does not have iTunes re-installed on it and chances are never will get around to it

I'm not trolling, but just stating others might like it.

I definitely wouldn't pay for one of those though. They are too expensive.

Except the Sony doesn't use Thunderbolt, it uses a proprietary piece of crap that will be almost utterly useless in real-world use - and contrary to what Sony hopes ("In order to use the 'lightpeak' cable you must buy a Genuine Sony Lightpeak Cable!") it's only going to make the user frustrated.

I don't care for the form factor on those laptops, MacBook Air, Sony Z or otherwise, I just don't understand why Sony has to fudge up the cable.

I hope everyone noticed the $3000 is what the Sony costs in Europe. Now it will probably be still more expensive than the MBA in the US, but I don't think it will be $1700 difference......

It doesn't really matter in either case, because both Apple's and Sony's implementations aren't going to make any sort of impact on the market when USB 3.0 is still around and offering full backwards compatibility.

Unlike others here, win7 is a stable, solid OS that has just as good as a user experience as OSX. So much so, that many people have seen its a more of a personal preference then any specific advantage/disadvantage.

The price is what's going to doom this laptop. Looks like its starts at 3,000 and goes up from there. That's just price so high few people will be willing to buy it

Remember that the pricing they had in the article was for Europe. If the $3000 figure is derived from the UK price, remember that this will include the 20% sales tax that we have to pay.
