I think everyone here likes their numeric keypad.

Not me. I much prefer keyboards without them so I don't have to move my right hand as far when transitioning to the mouse and back to the keyboard. I've used the keyboard's regular number row for so long now that I'm about as proficient with them as I was when I used to use a real number pad all the time.

I think everyone here likes their numeric keypad. I would probably get a wireless/solar one if Apple offered it, but as many IP addresses as I type throughout the day, I need that keypad!

I totally understand! I really do miss having a keypad when typing code, but now that i've gotten use to no keypad it isn't too bad! I would like to bring back my old Apple Keyboard sometime.

Do you use numbers on a regular basis?

I used to use the equivalent to an IBM model M from Unicomp (http://pckeyboard.com). They're basically the people who split off from IBM when IBM discontinued that particular style of keyboard. Same employees, same keyboards, same factory machines. Same everything.

It was "fun" for about 2 years to have a keyboard that sounded like miniature grenades detonating under the keys every time you pressed something and the spring collapsed with a loud "CLACK". After a while, I found my fingers and knuckles felt like they were starting to wear out and I couldn't sustain any level of productive typing for more then a few hours.

I eventually switched to Apple's "pro" USB keyboards (the full sized, full key units- back then they came in white and black, then just white, then white without the numpad), and later the chiclet units as soon as they became available.

Frankly, the reduced key press on the chiclet keyboards has convinced me to never look back. They are extremely easy keyboards to type on, and I can type on them all day long without any kind of issues. In fact, I find it extremely annoying to try and type on a "normal" keyboard these days- the key press travel is just too long.

I use the apple bluetooth keyboard with my mac. I wish it had a numberpad on it though!

I have one of these, and it rocks next to my iMac:

You can get one here: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/wireless-solar-keyboard-k750-mac?crid=26

Mine lives indoors (of course), and it doesn't get a lot of light. Though I've never had any power problems with it.

No. Even though I've got a numeric keypad on every desktop I've never used them. It's probably because when I started typing it was on a typewriter and I'm used to that layout. Perhaps if I started with a calculator...

Do you use numbers on a regular basis?

Yes. While I don't use numbers as much as an accountant would, I'm frequently typing IP addresses. When I first switched to my current keyboard, that doesn't have a number pad, it was tough as I wasn't used to using the number row at all. After a while of having to force myself to use it, I eventually grew to be just as efficient with it as a number pad. It's a trade off but I think having the mouse closer to my right hand's normal typing position, plus all the other advantages my current keyboard offers, is worth it.

My keyboard actually does have a number pad integrated into the right side of the keyboard (doubles with the U-O, J-L, etc keys) but I never use it. It can be activated with a special key or a foot switch.

I use the Apple Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard on my Mac Pros, I like it because I use a Logitech Wireless Trackball as well as a Magic Mouse.

My wife likes the K760 with her Magic Mouse.

Mine at home is the WHITE Apple keyboard... I actually prefer it to the aluminum one. My iMac at school is the aluminum one with the number pad; I could easily swap it for a white one (we have plenty of older iMacs, too), but I couldn't stand that it wouldn't match! lol Doesn't bother me on my Mini because its "regular" monitor and speakers don't have the complete Apple vibe, so I use what I like rather than what looks nice(r). :D I just HATE that the white one has USB 1.1 ports though... USELESS, even for my wireless mouse receiver.

Quite a lot of professional software packages use the NumPad keys as keyboard shortcuts for various functions, while reserving the main body numbers for others. The "Clear" key is often used for things and it cannot be reproduced easily on a short keyboard.

No. Even though I've got a numeric keypad on every desktop I've never used them.

Same here. Almost never used. But at the same time I do notice that I occasionally miss them when using a laptop or KB without one.

So even tho I almost never use them I still want one. :)
