I have been using mine at work for a couple of weeks now and haven't seen any real negativity. My boss likes to give me crap for being a Windows and Exchange admin with a Mac/iPhone/iPad combo but after watching me remote into a system to fix something remotely without having to walk to my desk in another building even he has changed his tune.

Now he is "probably buying one for his wife" which is code for "I am buying one for me but I don't want to cop to it." Everyone else has just wanted to play with it.

Who cares about these posters anyway?

It's probably that 90% of these posts are made by 10% of the posters. Just ignore them and the posts they generate in the trolling.

Some excellent responses in there guys, thanks for that!

I have certainly used the "agreement" strategy before where I just agree with whatever the other guy says. That certainly throws them off the scent for a while.

Thanks again,
Craig.

1. Yes, for the moment it is an iPod Grand Touch.
2. It's made for consuming contents. In fact testing it I have understood why 1984 was not like 1984: because the embryo of the big brother still needed 26 years of evolution.
3. ?
4. I could type perfectly with the iPad in horizontal position with the original case. This is one of the reasons for which I miss a better OS than iPods's.
5. I think the price is good.

A clock's just a big watch really.

A cinema's just a big telly.

A lion? Just a big cat, innit?

A marathon: merely a long jog.

And you, sir, are just a big baby.

love this response, really made me laugh out loud!

Me too.

That said though, has any of you tried to edit a long post here on MacRumors with an iPad? The editor thingy doesn't actually have scroll bars, so how do I get to the bottom of the text? I don't have arrow keys. Does MacRumors need a tweak to their editor?

Also, I don't like the inability to show mouseover events. Many sites use those to present information on pictures or other things. My iPad only comes up with the copy/paste functions. Before copy/paste was introduced, you could actually trigger a mouseover event in mobile Safari (on iPhone).

I was initially defensive but learnt to say, "Hey, it's probably not for you. And that's ok!" Of course this is followed by a silent "now bugger off!":D

+1

First,
I was an original naysayer.
You know what, most of their critiques are right on.
I really can't defend anything.
It's nowhere near the "magical" device Jobs promised but I still love it.
So I say, who cares?, if they don't like it, too bad for them.
I don't need to convince anyone.

Ahh, my friend, you need to learn the 2 finger swipe down to scroll within a text box. You'll wonder what you did without it.

We, people, are debaters. Nearly every forum has a group that says one thing, while the other group disagrees. Same thing happens in 'real-life'. Interestingly enough we tend to debate things we don't understand, sometimes in order to understand them. (Religion, politics) Then we debate things we have an ingrained passion about (Gun control, abortion, BP, and Apple)

I am a developer. I talked about iPad to group of developers, who most of which have a stated disdain for Apple products, they had similar comments as the OP experienced. I took iPad to work. Comments gone. Some have purchased.

The lesson, regardless of the camp the debater falls into, to understand or passion, exposure to truth changes everything.

Two finger swipe.

Can't help you with mouseover, except to say that there are a lot of touch devices out there now, and sites may need to rethink their interfaces.
