****, the last week or two i keep seeing little ants come running out from under the keyboard, prob killed at least 12( one while writing this). Should I be worried? Could they "chew" through some critical components?

Why are you eating snacks and cakes and stuff while on your MAC? Or you're just a slob! haha

They probably couldn't eat through any components, but they can't be doing it any good. They could short out components or even jam up your fans. I'd get it looked at, ask Apple what to do...

i dunno what to say, you need to kill them.

but dunno how to rid the mac of them.
Why dont u set a perimter of ant baits around your laptop and hope that all the ants will be attracted to them and abandon your laptop!

There have been a number of threads about ants in Macs here over the years. Living, in ant-happy California, I occasionally see one crawl out from under the keyboard of my old iBook. I don't think they're after food...they like the slight warmth generated by the computer while it's sleeping. As things start to heat up when the computer wakes up, they get uncomfortable and flee.

They've never caused me a problem...twelve at one time is a lot though.

I got quite a few ants in my MBP. They'd crawl up my power cable and into the computer...

I really don't think they'll hurt much, but I found it just as annoying. To the person who said they could cause a short... as far as I know, ants don't conduct electricity that well ;)

I have ants in my computer at work too. They help me build my source code, pretty useful tool.

Now if you are talking about REAL ants, why don't you just run your more intensive application for a few hours and kill all of them?

It shouldn't void your warranty but Apple may charge for the removal service. We had a PB with ants when I worked for an ASP we opened it up but found no trace of them being there. When we booked it in we said we'd charge for it but we just opened-inspected-reassembled and then returned for no charge. It's really not that big a deal. So take a few deep breaths and take it in to Apple. At worst case if some idiot at the ASP tells you it's going to void your warranty, don't give it to them, be on your merry way. Then take it somewhere else.

There's gotta be instructions around for opening up a MBP without Apple being able to notice. Open it up, spray that canned air stuff all up in there & blow out what you can...something is attracting them...you might find a crumb under that keyboard.

Try setting your processor to max for a few days and run something that really works the system.

If that doesn't do 'em in, then I guess compressed air might do the trick,
but only use it with your machine cold and off.

You really cant blame the ants for setting up home in a new beautiful central heated house now can you? :p
