Funny. Just two days ago one of my students said he had little ants in his computer, too. Desktop. though, and Korea. I thought he was just joking, but, no, "Ants, teacher, when i play computer games." :p

I had to fix a mouse-infested PC. The mouse got in through an uncovered card slot, peed everywhere, ate cables and then died.

This is much more common than you would think. In Texas, ants cause an estimated 1.2 billion dollars in damage every year, according to the US Department of Agriculture.

From the web:
The hum of electrical equipment is like a love song for these ants. Dr. Drees says that the cold-blooded animals are attracted to the extra warmth that utility housings and other electrical devices give off during winter. The ants seek the shelter of these places during heavy rains. But their mere presence is destructive. The ants bring nesting soil, which has a corrosive effect on wires and switches. The ants chew on insulation, causing short circuits and switch failures. Even worse, ants which are electrocuted in the process of chewing on wires can cause a lemming-like effect. The dead ants release a pheromone that attracts other worker ants. The bodies of dead ants pile up and jam the switching mechanisms and muck up the wiring.

This is a trial of one of Apple's new features, the "Ever Clean Keyboard." Have you ever looked at a keyboard after a year or two of use? They are pretty disgusting. By packaging the ants in their keyboards Apple provides a tiny little army to carry out continuous keyboard cleaning.

to the person that said about taking your mbp apart without apple noticing. I did this. I just unscrewed the screws make sure to get the one next to the hindge on by the moniter i didnt see those and it caused some problems. there are also 2 under the battery if i remember correctly.

Anyways I took it apart and the only thing that looked like apple could tell if I took it apart or not was some blue stuff on the threads of the screws. most of it stayed on which I guess is why when I sent mine in they didn't even ask if I opened mine.

Just make sure if you do take apart your computer that you ground yourself on like the battery compartment before touching anything inside the computer, oh and have fun killing those ants...they are nasty little things...

I presume you are hooked up to the Internet in some way. Speak to your ISP, they are probably sending you the ants. Check your Internet package, and if possible change to a service that doesn't include ants.

As long as you have the firewall running, they can't damage your MBP.

Aspartame kills ants

****, the last week or two i keep seeing little ants come running out from under the keyboard, prob killed at least 12( one while writing this). Should I be worried? Could they "chew" through some critical components?

Put some Equal (aspartame - the same thing in your diet coke) around your computer - anywhere you see ant trails. Ants love it, they take it back to feed to the queen. It kills her and all the rest of the colony in a couple days.

Makes you wonder how good diet coke is for you, doesn't it?

Yikes! I just saw a report on TV today how they use ant acid to scratch the paint layers off before repainting airplanes. Just imagine what might happen when your ants spray some of it onto your logic board...

Maybe you can take it to professional pest control people who can put it in a gas chamber. That's what they do with bug-infested furniture!
