That's still a really high number. I'm hoping dead pixels aren't that common on Apple products.

That number doesn't make sense in the way you see it.

It doesn't mean 50% or 33% of new iMacs have pixel problems, it only means that 50% or 33% of those people who read this forum and reply to this thread have pixel problems.

If everyone who bought a new iMac responded, you'd have a valid result. Right now, you're only hearing about a few. Most people without problems never even visit a forum.

Still there's a fairly high share of the screens that have at least one dead or stuck pixel. My guess would be about 10-15%. But I doubt that everyone who gets it will even notice it or be bothered by it.

Just curious for those who have received their new 20/24" whether you had any dead pixels.

If go, where did you buy it and did you do anything about it?

My 24" 2.8 arrives next week so keeping my fingers crossed. My MBP 15" C2D has a perfect screen but my MB Black C2D had 1 dead pixel, not earth shattering.

Taking mine back today to store. I've had 2 20's and a 24" all having dead or stuck pixels. My luck I guess. If they give me another I'll try again if not I'll take the refund.

Got a 24" with one dead pixel right in the middle of the screen. Not in the middle on the side, middle at the top, but dead center. It showed up on every single dialog box.

I'm well aware of the low defect rate one dead pixel implies, but not all pixels are the same. A dead pixel right in the middle is worse than five dead pixels near the edges. I had a dead pixel on a great Toshiba laptop that didn't bother me at all - it was in the upper left corner.

Went to the Apple store, girding myself for an argument, and as soon as it turned on, the Genius pointed right to it and said "Oh that? No, you don't want that", and gave me a replacement on the spot. Made me a Mac convert that moment.

Apple seems to have changed their attitude towards replacements for dead/stuck pixels. IIRC it used to be much harder to get it replaced only a couple of years ago.
Perhaps their providers have better policies now? I don't think that they would take it back so easily if they didn't get a new panel from their providers for free.
