Has anybody who ordered the refurbs from AT&T received theirs yet? What are your first impressions on the physical condition of the units? Any functional defects?

TIA,
Dale

Update 1

Just got the phone today. Physically, it's flawless! No scratches as the disclaimer on the AT&T site warns about. No cracks either. Didn't power up yet as it's my wife's Christmas present. I'll post an update once it's activated and I've checked the warranty against the Apple site.

When exactly did you order it? What I mean is, how long did it take process and ship out?

I could have told you it would be perfect... the refurbs are as good or better as the non-refurbs. The originals went through a 1/2 assed quality assurrance process. The refurbs went through that same process, but then went through a seperate one again after they were returned for whatever reason.

I'd say they're definitely always going to be better.

Probably from Apple but AT&T has a warning that the refurbs could have "minor scratches."

Interesting... doesn't matter though. Once you get your hands on it, don't ever go to At&t again. Use the warranty from apple and get all your work done from them.

It looks like it went through Apple's refurb process; in which case the pristine condition is no surprise. It did come in an AT&T box. The disclaimer is probably a catch-all for units that somehow get scratched during order processing.

So do they have a full 1-year warranty? Because it was mentioned elsewhere the warranty was only 90 days.

I ordered Friday night and got it Tuesday via Fedex 2nd Day. I live in N. California and the package was shipped from Ft. Worth, TX...
Ordered mine Monday, but I suppose I won't be seeing it until next week :(
It's still "processing" whatever that means... and I paid for overnight so that it could be like my own little Christmas gift \=

Straight from AT&T:

"Refurbished Phones and Devices
Refurbished phones are previously owned devices that have been unused or lightly used and returned during the 30-day trial period. Each refurbished phone is independently quality tested and loaded with the latest software to meet current factory standards. Some refurbished iPhone 3G devices will have minor scratches.

Refurbished iPhone 3G devices carry a warranty of 90 days or more. For details about the warranty on your refurbished iPhone 3G go to www.apple.com/support/oss/."

Hmm..so should we assume that they're giving out 1 year warranties on these? I'm thinking of getting a refurbished one from ATT but not if I don't know how long the warranty lasts.

Since it says "90 days or more" I'm assuming the warranties started the day the customer bought the device and ends a year later on that day, so basically they're not starting a new warranty for us.

Just run the serial number on Apple website for warranty status.

Yup to both. I checked against the Apple website to get the Nov. 11, 2009 warranty expiration on my wife's "new" iPhone...

where on the at&t webpage are you guys seeing the refurb iphone's? ive looked everywhere....

NEVERMIND... im a dork. found it.

Yea!!!

Just received my refurbished 8gb..Looks brand new...cables, ac adaptor and headsets appear to be new..Also double checked on the Apple site, and my warranty is valid until October 2009...was a win/win for me....

The order was placed on the 30th and I received it in the mail on Monday the 5th. So not that bad considering I lost a business day because of the holiday.

I ordered mine on Dec 29th and was delivered on Dec 31st. The iphone is in perfect condition, only thing that was missing in the box was the cleaning cloth. It was shipped with firmware 2.1.

Ordered a 16GB black refurb, no scratches, works great. Came in with 2.1, only the USB cable looked to be used and when I checked the warranty on Apples site, it says until August 2009. Definitely going to put this through it's paces to make sure it has no issues.

It seems that the experiences are mostly favorable with the AT&T refurbs.

Best Buy is also getting into it. Interesting, though, is that the "mobile geek" I talked to was very careful to say "refreshed" rather than "refurb"; almost sounded like she thought they were returns that were just quick-tested and repackaged. I suspect that they are really refurb'ed as we know it (defects fixed, re-tested, casing replaced as needed and new earphones)...

I purchased 2 refurbs 8gb from att around dec. 27th... recieved both of them a few days later, not a big deal on shipping.

Both phones looked almost new, no visual defects to them. One phone however, the home button didn't work correctly (worked once every 7-8 pushes)

I ran upto the apple store near me, and they replaced it with one of their refurbs no problems at all.
