As an ex-iMac Pro owner, I kept hoping they'd release a new version, but I'm happy to go for a Mac Studio with Apple Display given the price & performance.

I have a late 2015 5k with i7 /32gb/512 ssd /m395x that's been perfect aside from the minor lcd bleeding on the edges.

I ordered a studio max with 64gb/2tb ssd and will use two lg 32" displays.

I thought about trading it in, but it seems worth more than 490 on the open market, hope im right.

I have a 2017 27” iMac that still runs well. Once I get the studio I’ll replace the 3TB Fusion drive and repurpose it. I had been waiting for a M1 Max 27” iMac but realized it had been EOL at the end of the presentation. I bought a M1 Max Studio which I would have done even if they announced a new 27” iMac realizing the Studio is really a better device for me. It’ll pair with my 49” ultrawide monitor perfectly.

Here
I will be upgrading my 2017 27" iMac to the Mac Studio. I really have no justifiable reason to other than I want to move to Apple Silicon and I love ideology behind the new release. I have strong doubts that we'll see an iMac Pro as I think the Mac Studio + Display is more or less Apple's answer (not too far off of pricing) for that market. We may see an updated 27" iMac in the future that is a scaled up 24" perhaps with an M? Pro or M? Max, but I also think that an M2 Mac mini + Studio Display could again be Apple's answer to that market.

Originally I was planning on replacing my iMac because I enjoy the benefits of the All-in-One system, but it's really hit me how wasteful it is to get rid of a perfectly good 5K display because I want to upgrade the computer. Even before this announcement I was thinking about how I'll soon need a laptop for a separate purpose and how much utility I'd get out of a display that is able to be shared between my personal and "business" computer.

Currently thinking it over, if I mainly use Photoshop for design work, Illustrator and Bridge, is it overkill?
Happy to spend the money on it if it will be amazing, but Im just concerned I wont really get my moneys worth.

The mac mini doesn't have enough ram so Im not keen on going there.

Former iMac Pro (base model) user here. I moved from that to a Pro Display XDR + M1 Mac mini. The M1 mini felt a bit underpowered for my uses, especially driving the Pro Display XDR. Now, I'll swap that mini out for a base model Mac Studio Ultra.

I also previously had a base model trashcan Mac Pro. I seem to do OK with the base models of the higher-end machines, as they depreciate less % over time vs. the CTO builds.

There is still the i5/i7 Mac Mini that has yet to be replaced... and a big gap between the current M1 Mac Mini and the Mac Studio for an M1 Pro or M2 Mac Mini to fill.

There's a $600 gap between an upgraded/comparable base M1 mini to a Mac Studio Max. I don't consider that $600 to be a big price gap, and performance of 16GB mini vs. 32GB Studio Max is just a normal gap. It's not like we're going to get a 24GB RAM option ;)

I ordered a Mac Studio and Studio Display to replace a 2017 iMac. I do a lot of video editing, and I hope the Studio will eliminate the need to use a proxy media workflow (or at least make that a rare exception).

I like the modular concept. Why throw away a perfectly good display just to upgrade the CPU? I wish I could retain the iMac’s SSD as well; it’s very fast and reliable (and it was expensive, too). I had a Mac Pro before the iMac, before those got way pricey.

I just ordered a Mac Studio M1 Max 10 CPU/32 GPU/32 RAM and 2TB. It’s going to replace my still running 2017 27” iMac 5K i5, 24GB ram and 512GB SSD. I also have a pair of LG Ultrafine 32UN880-B. I wanted a new 27” or 32” iMac but looks like that’s not going to happen any time soon if ever!!!

Definitely wouldn’t buy another iMac I told myself. That one sits in kitchen now and surprisingly gets used a lot. Looks like I won’t have to. Still my primary machine is windows and a 38” monitor. I do like the mpb m1 max I got but software remains the dealbreaker of going in more. My work requires windows.

Still was tempted by m1 ultra. Think I’ll resist it for now. Can’t say the 27” monitor appealed at all. But yeah. Ultra looks good. Don’t see the anemic software situation warranting it though right now.

Now you can use Windows 11 ARM with a Parallels virtual machine. I just installed this week and it seems to work fine. I also need Windows for my work and I've used a VM for over 10 years now when I need Windows. You can trial both of them before deciding to buy.

I'm defecting from a 2011 27" iMac. I've been waiting....and waiting..and waiting. It's time to move on and the Studio should be a nice replacement. M1 Ultra paired w/Studio Display. I may even add a second display, I'm not sure yet I want to see/use/touch it first before buying a second display.

I am currently sitting on a maxed out late 2015 27" iMac, which still runs surprisingly well. I will be holding out until the Mac Pro releases, just to see, if something in the range of an 27" iMac Pro will be released - which probably will not happen. Then I am in for a Mac Studio in the lower M1 Ultra configuration and probably two of the 27" Studio Displays. We will see...

Upgrading from a 2013 iMac 27” to a Studio Max 32Gb 1Tb and a LG Ergo 32” 4K screen.

I’d have been happy with a 30” iMac M1 Pro, but it was not to be.

Nice! Am considering LG32UN650-W for my Studio Max.

I don't see it as defecting.

I have been waiting for ages to replace my mid 2013 27" iMac, and have wished that Apple would make a separate system like this since my first iMac. It only took having to box it up, and carry it across town for service once to prefer the idea. That and just being annoyed with reaching behind the iMac to plug anything into it.

The price though, quite a bit more than that 2013 iMac!

Typing this on my late 2012 27" i7. Studio desktop (10/24 Max w/ 1TB SSD) and display incoming.

Been holding out for a Mini or iMac with an M1 Pro chip, but not knowing if/when that will drop and with my iMac getting a little creaky, I bit on the Studio.

Yes, I decided about a fortnight ago that I'd probably look at replacing my 2017 27" iMac with a Mac mini so this is perfect timing.

Got you beat by one year... 2010 mid year iMac 27 (first Quad Core version). Been waiting and waiting too.. I've opened it up a few times to install SSD's (that was fun) and it's been a great machine but so outdated now and High Sierra is the "highest" you can go haha. I was holding out for the "not to be" iMac27 with M1 Max but I have no problem moving up to a Studio... but not until the fall when all the first production "bugs" are worked out. I've waited so long another 6 months or so won't hurt!
