Any M3 owners have buyer's remorse with M4 around the corner?

M1-M4 - same thing. I'm waiting for a new screen, redesign, etc.

Of course, I will look at the M4 MBP to see what might be the 'must-have'.

However, I've a max'd out M1 16" MBP as workhorse & a M1 13" MBA for travel/outdoors. Neither is disappointing me for their intended purpose.

Beware M4 regret? A lot will depend on price/performance and when I might be considering that cascade of the M1 16" MBP to daughter to replace that earlier cascade of the pre-loved 15" 2015 MBP

Agreed. When it comes to "Certain tech", The every 4-years is when you see real improvement compared to what you have. For Ex. M1 Max users will see significant improvements when upgrading to M4 Max.

The only product that attracts yearly upgrade buy is GPUs and RAM. I guarantee you, 100% of 4090 buyers will buy the 5090.

Given the way Nvidia has already spiked prices of the outgoing 4080/90 series by cutting supply, I think they may price a lot of people out of the high-end market for no reason other than greed. Over time, you may see 70-75% of 4090 owners upgrade, but it will not be 100% at those prices.

No buyer's remorse. I went from M1-M3 and noticed no real advantages. I doubt M3-M4 will make that much of a difference for many of us. Well, at least for me.

I bought my 14" M3 Max MBP quite a while ago, so no buyers remorse. I've had all this time with an extremely fast computer and have no intention of replacing it any time soon. It's for the most part faster than I need anyway, so unless there's some magic cannot-live-without macOS feature that only be done on an M4 machine, I'm unlikely to require anything new for some time to come.

You just have to pick what you need, when you need it, from what's available at the time.

I got the M1 with 8TB, it was such an optimistic time. I have to tell you, it's a feeling. A feeling that, well, you know, you have got enough storage. And also that you're might NEED that much, LOL 🍸😹. It does make the upgrade question more expensive though 🍸😿

I bought my 14" M3 Pro MBP about 5 months ago to replace a 2017 MBP that was bought new in 2019. Been quite happy with it, very impressed with battery life. It's also s-o-o-o much nicer to have a magsafe power connector, HDMI port, SD card reader and THREE USB-C ports as opposed to just TWO USB-C ports on the previous MBP. Don't feel any need to upgrade to the M4 Pro. Only thing I miss is an Ethernet port. OTOH, I will likely be replacing my M1 Mini with an M4 Pro Mini unless Apple really screws up the design for the Mini.

No remorse here. Got my 2024 iMac in June. Got it with 16GB Ram. It replaced my 27" 2012 iMac. I'm good for at least another 10-12 years.

my only regret is that even though I put 233 battery cycles on my M3 Max, I could have waited 8 months and gotten $1000 more Ram and SSD at micro center for the same price I paid. This thing should work great until 2030 until I get bored but going forward ill wait 9 months and but a fully loaded MAX at a huge discount 3 months before the new version comes out.

Zero remorse purchasing a used (came with AC+ and other extras too) M3 Pro 14" 18GB/1TB for nearly 40% discount from retail, a few months back).

Plenty of horsepower and storage for my needs for the next 4-5 years.

Interesting…I was just thinking about this today.

I bought one of the 14 inch MacBook Pro M3 Pro (11/14…18GB Ram, 512GB SSD) a couple of months ago when they were going for $1,499. I bought it to replace a 2018 15 inch Macbook Pro. I couldn‘t be happier. It does everything I need a laptop to do and is well spec‘d enough for the things I do to take me a few years down the road.

Would I prefer the new M4 Pro version? Sure…if price were no issue! Even if the base 14 inch MBP M4 Pro…in whatever configuration they come with…is priced at $1,999, I‘m happy with the M3 for $500 less.

I am curious though to see the base configuration of the 14 inch MBP M4 pro. Based on rumors of the base M4 MBs (non pros) having 16GB RAM….I’m guessing the MBP M4 pros will have 24GB ram as the base. I’m also guessing the M4 MB’s will follow the M4 iPads with a price jump.

My guess: The base 14 inch MBP M4 Pro: 24GB RAM at $2,199.

Based on the specs and pricing of the Mac Mini M4 Pro announced today, I think my guess is close to the mark. The M4 Pro Mac Mini comes with base specs of 24GB RAM and the price was bumped up by $100. That would put the 14 inch MBP M4 Pro (base specs) at 24GB RAM at a $2,099 price. That’s $600 higher than what I paid for the 14 inch M3 Pro back in the summer. I’m happy with the M3 Pro and the price savings.

for me extra p-cores could make a difference for rpcs3 and cities: skylines 2

m3 pro is choking on both of them

I bought m3 pro 14 inches 6 months back. I didnt like base M4 got many features awarded to it from M3 pro and more... 16gbRAM, space black color, thunderbolt 4 ports now, brighter screen and best battery life ever in a MAC.


Man, I should have waited.. I would have got M4 base MBP. i got m3 pro only due to RAM being greater than 8GB MBP for future proofing. I dont use GPUs power in MBP anyways.

I bought M3 8GB/512 last year. This is a good laptop and for my office work it is more than enough. So I don't feel any need to upgrade nor feel deficiencies of 8GB. Maybe in few years from now, yes, especially if lighter Macs will appear.

Evidently the M5 will be the big change, it using some type of stacked 3D chip design. I returned my M3 and have ordered an M4. For me my MacPro 5,1 is suffering OS support issues (I use Opencore too) so I have little choice. Almost made the M5! I still would not have bought the M4 but for it having thunderbolt 5.

I may change my order too before the machine is available ... over two weeks to go. I may spend a heap more and get the 64 GB 16" (Max for over 48 GB). Mainly because I want to upgrade low res videos to 4K, and it takes a long time at the moment, and I have asked Topaz for some data on speeds ... but the Max had double the processing for doing such work I think.

It's also possible that a discount happens to the base configuration from retailers ie a 16" Max 1 TB / 48 GB RAM. 10% off is quite a big difference. But no retailer will ever discount a 64 GB version or one with over 1 TB drive, because Apple doesn't provide those builds to the retailers - at least in Australia they do not. Apple will match a published discount, but not at an Applestore. One has to ring up Apple sales and they will match the price.

I am also planning on going off road in our off road caravan, and spending 6 to 12 months doing so. I will put Starnet on the van, so to view things together with my wife, the 16" will make more sense. Otherwise the 14" as its much better value and I suspect rarely slower.

New processors are released every year. For me this entire thread is a moot point. There is always going to be an improved processor in the future.

Im skipping the M4 Max and waiting for the M5 Max, though im not sure if I should wait for the the new redesign wether that will be the M5 or M6, or buy next years model (with the same design) even though I know it could be the last design

I brought a base MBA 13" in march just for downloading music as I don't want it on my main mbp. Very rare I use it for a few hours at a time but still.
