Really? It's an 11" screen! Either you want a screen that small or you don't. Somebody else's opinion on something like this is useless.

Then, by that logic, your opinion that the opinions of others is useless, is utterly useless.

This is the OP's 4th thread about the Air's screen in 5 days. Call me harsh, rude or whatever, but he really needs to just look at it himself.

No he doesn't. If you are annoyed that this is his 4th thread in 5 days, then don't answer in his thread. Go to a different thread. Go to a different website.

It is not like you are under obligation to answer his questions. If you don't want to answer, leave. As simple as that. No need to be rude.

I am sad this thread was derailed but I am very happy to hear the good experiences people are having with these babies. (maybe said posts including my own should be deleted because I am sure others will find it helpful too to hear this from people actually using the new airs as opposed to first impressions in an apple store)

I guess the screen resolution does make a difference after all.

So I 'll go with my heart and buy the small one (instead of my logic that says the big one). I am sure I 'm not going to regret it, after hearing how you guys have nothing but good things to say about it, and not only about the screen.

It's funny but my 12" powerbook's charger just died yesterday. Coincidence? :):apple:

Ever consider that he might not be able to see one.

Im 175 miles from the closest Apple store, and Best Buy aint got em yet.

Lol, about the same distance from me too, and I am working unfortunately and I don't drive so I have to get a £40 train ticket to the closest apple store. Plus since I am going for a maxed out bto 11.6" they probably won't have anything available.

Count me as someone who loved the 11" idea and after seeing it in the Apple Store, bought one instantly. But after two days of working on it - I am returning it today.

I find the screen is just *too* small. And I love my RevB Air, and I loved the 12" PB and 12" iBooks I had back in the day. But while the high-rez is nice, w/o resolution independence in OSX, the UI elements are pretty small, on a screen that's already really small.

I also wasn't loving the keyboard, and as a writer, that's my main gateway into the computer. The key depresses are *really* shallow - I'd say almost 50% less "press" than even the MBA. Not sure if it's the same on the newer 13" model, but for my hands, typing on the MBA keyboard was closer to typing on a touchscreen than typing on a physical keyboard.

That plus already not loving that the MBA lost the backlit keyboard, means that I'm gonna try and stick with my revB MBA for a while longer. Hopefully the summer brings more updates (Core iX?) and with it the return of the backlight.

I bought the 11.6 inch macbook Air 64gb and 2gb of RAM so pretty much the smallest and cheapest.
I did this because i tried using both the 13 and 11(almost 12 inch) MBA.
I was stunned when using the 11.6 inch, which is in my opinion without any doubt the best of these two guys.
The thing is the 13 inch is actually too big not that 13 inch is too big for a laptop, but if you are looking for a 13 inch notebook then go for the MB pro, it's about the same prize and way more powerfull and pretty mobile too.

Some might say the 11 inch is like a netbook, but that is very untrue. The 11 inch is actually about the same widht as a mac book pro 13 inch due to two factors.
1. It has a 16:9 screen instead of 16:10
2. Looking a the screen it actually has a pretty wide empty area around the sides.
As steve mentioned it is also full keyboard with the same key size as the rest of the MB's

So my advice is either go compare them in real life, or stick to the 11.6 inch which is really the best.

sorry for my quite newbish english :p

Coming from an Alienware m11x 11.6" netbook, it was a no brainer for me to go for the 11.6" screen. I am used to this size and actually prefer it. I have never regretted anything about the m11x. My opinion is that the 11.6" Air is the most unique and lightest notebook out there with enough power to do everything I need, which may include a little gaming. Apple did a great job with this one and it beats out my old Revision C 2.13 ghz Air in both raw power and graphics.

Thanks guys appreciate it.

I think 4-5 threads on the keyboard are now in order. :D

Seriously though, I 've made up my mind to just go with the small one and return it in case I don't like it. Probably the only way to figure this out for myself -as of course it's a bit silly to think one can just visit the apple store and make up for usage time/experience with the device- is to buy it and return it if it's not large enough or the keyboard isn't good (which has got me worried because I too write a lot and like depressions in keyboards - I dislike the chicklet ones for example) , I can always return it and get the larger one - and offer someone else a good maxed out air deal on the refurb store too. ;)

Went to the Apple store on Sunday and compared them both. As much as I wanted to like the 11.6, the size of the display was just too small for my purposes (as a primary machine). Having lived with a 10 in Dell Hackbook for the last year I could tell that the same things that drove me crazy about the small screen on that machine would also be a problem on the slightly larger screen of the 11.6 (to much scrolling to view web pages, and documents). So I came home with the 13, and I couldn't be happier with the machine.

FWIW

LOL, all the rude and harsh comments are cracking me up. Maybe these are the people who wished they would have gotten the 13" instead of the 11", instead of returning their 11" they will take their frustrations out on someone who wants to know. I feel bad for the guy in the wheelchair who wants to know peoples reactions too. Word of advice to him, DON'T POST HERE!

I used an ultraportable with a 12" screen for a while. It did seem cramped. It felt like I was forever scrolling up and down to find what I was looking for.

The 11" screen on the Air does not feel cramped at all TO ME. The text is small, but very sharp and easy on the eyes.

Just my 2 cents. Your mileage may vary.

On topic though:

IMO the 720P resolution is horrible for doing any real work. Browsing webpages, email, etc are fine. But anything more, and you will run into trouble.

If it will be your portable then the 720p screen is fine. If it is your main computer, then depending on your usage, it may be a bit limited.

In my own experience, I used to own a black macbook before (1280 x 800). Although, I was initially very excited about the beauty of it, I quickly got annoyed with the tiny screen. For me, it just became a very expensive internet/email machine.

I recently upgraded to a MBP 17(1920x1200). And this, I can say, is a pleasure to work on. It does weigh 6.6 lbs. But thats only 1.1 lbs heavier than my black macbook, so I'm good.

But it seems to me that the 13 inch MBA is a good balance between size, weight and screen estate.

MBP 17 is a fantastic machine, but it sure is a drag if you travel quite a bit....

This comment was pretty relevant for me and makes reading this thread worth it. There was another as well about having to scroll too much.

I really want to find a way to make the 11" work but I may not be able to for my use model.

The problem is that I never really know what the experience is like until I get some real time at a desk using the machine. Hunched over playing with one at the Apple store isn't quite my usual use case. Understanding what bugs others does help even if you have to wade through the differences in the usage.

It is as said before also very important to note that the screen is a high resolution screen, which means more content on less space. Actually the 11 inch MB Air will display more content than the 13 MB pro so it is not all hard to use.

I do have to agree that this is not mented to be your main computer, as some jobs are not possible on the computer and the screen might give you a hard time sometimes.
Good luck with it everybody, can't wait for mine to arrive :D
