The air vents out from the back, not through the keyboard so it's okay to use the macbook in clamshell mode.

That's with the iBook, but not the Macbook.

Phungy.. I said air INTAKE.

Eraserhead.. Not sure about the iBook, but convinced about the macbook. Get the CPU fan running high and put you hand over the keyboard. You can feel the air passing through your fingers.

If Apple have already said somewhere on the site or in some manual that its ok, then I would imagine thats is fine. edit: (in clamshell mode)

Oh ok, thanks. I'll try to go tonight, hopefully they'll be able to help me :)

good luck. and if the gap is beyond spec, maybe they'll replace that part.

if they don't find anything wrong, maybe it's because you didn't allow enough ventilation for it. did you have the back of your mb really close to a wall or stack of books or something to interfere with airflow? or sitting on a piece of clothing or other non-hard surface to reduce the tiny air gap that the tiny feet on the mb provide. is the mb near a heat output source like heat vent or radiator which would compound the heat generated from the mb?

heat dissipation is a VERY important concern.

the only problem with them running diagnostics is that they'll need to keep it for a bit. that usually deters many people from taking their computer in until things get to point they can no longer live with the problem.
although, if it's just the brick or battery that is failing, that will be a quick check-up and on the spot replacement .
