Seems logical they would not upgrade the MBP's while trying to "feature"
the new air. Expect silent upgrades within a few weeks imo.

And i'm still trundling along perfectly fine with my 1st generation macbook with no thoughts of upgrading. The macbook hasn't been updated in any significant way for the average user since it was released in my opinion.

I've been a habitual updater in the past, but I agree with you here. There hasn't been anything that would make me even lust after a new MB, let alone pull the trigger on one.

For months now various people on these forums have recommended to others that they'd be mad to buy a MBP when an upgrade was so imminent in January. This despite the fact that there were NO leaks or rumors from websites that suggested anything of the kind. Only an ultraportable MacBook was rumored. People instead seemed to have got it in their heads that it was simply "time" for Apple to upgrade the MBP.

Now that Apple have NOT upgraded the MBP in any way at all, I'm feeling even better about my MBP which I've had for nearly 5 months now. People said the same thing about Leopard and how you should wait so you got it included with a new Mac. I didn't wait. I wanted my MBP and I bought it and bought Leopard a month later.

Let this be the warning bell for those not buying a product because they are scared of it being upgraded. If you want or need a product, just BUY it and enjoy it. I've been enjoying mine, and so I imagine, have many other MBP owners.

Even today there are still people saying that there will be a silent upgrade in the next few weeks, still clinging onto hope.

If you let your constant paranoia about buying an out of date product affect you then you will end up buying nothing!

Go forth and do the right thing folks. Join us. You won't regret it. :)

I'm in the same boat as you, I bought mine about 5 months ago, and people were ALWAYS talking about upgrades. That macbook air thing is such crap... it's more money for less goods. yea it's stylish, and it's great for surfing the web and doing less intensive things but first off:
Why would you spend more money to do these less intensive activities?
The thing looks like it'll bend, crack, break - it just seems really flimsy. I treat my MBP like a god, and it's still had the inevitable bumps that i don't think the MBA would be able to survive.

Anyways, It's awesome that the MBP has held it's weight for so long

Yep, you're basically buying a lower specced MacBook at a MacBook Pro's price

When I've seen the photos today around the net comparing the MBA with the MBP I keep thinking to myself just how beautiful the MBP STILL looks!

You just can't beat it. For me it's a powerful, portable desktop, sitting there on your lap. Looking nearly as cool as the MBA.

All I can say is you will be a greater fool to buy now.

I for one refused to be blackmailed by Apple by their lax product release schedules. I do believe at some point (soon) Apple will need to do something when their Macbook Pros with huge 160GB harddrives are put side by side Dells with harddrives twice that and a later generation of processors.

Free market forces aside, the new keyboard on the Air and the multi touch trackpad are just hints of things to come, any fool who buys now is seriously... just a fool.

Yeah I gotta agree. I mean come on you know their right around the corner because they're already overdue. I've waited so far and I can be patient. I mean I'm gonna be stuck with it for at least the next 5 years.

I ordered a refurbished MacBook Pro on December 27th, 2007 or so and it came on the 31st. It is by far the best computer I have EVER owned. I am not regretting it one bit. Even if the Peryn was released, the performance is only about .2 GHz more standard. I got this laptop for $2100 ANYWAYS... Why would I want to spend $400 more for .2 GHz and multi-touch capabilities (although that is rather slick)?

To make it short... I don't regret this one bit. :D

<3 :apple:

I was suggested by several Macintosh "gurus" that I should sell my current MBP and use the money to buy a new portable that would be released this MWSF. I am very glad I did not pay any heed to them.

I do admit that I would have given the same advice to anyone else, and I did chime in telling people that they should wait until jan 15th.

I don't feel smug at all, not even relieved, but I don't think I should be called stupid for purchasing a MBP for my husband in December for his birthday. I wanted something special for him and I didn't want to have to wait. After all, one should celebrate their birthday on their birthday, not when a new computer is released. He has a beautiful machine that, in all honesty, is probably more computer than he needs. And what's more is he is loving it! As for the Macbook Air, I really, really like it, but can't see myself buying (at least not anytime soon), but with that said, I can understand why some people will buy it, love it, and use it. It seems to me that everyone expects Apple to release exactly what their little old heart desires and that is just plain impossible. They will always disappoint someone. I think that we forget that Apple does it all, the develop software, including the OS, they produce, iPhones, iPods, and computers, just to mention a few. If you want to wait for a new, latest, greatest computer, but don't call those who already purchased stupid. I am sure Apple will meet your needs, just show some patience and try not to bash too much just because you didn't what you wanted today.
