Any reason a 27" 4.0GHz i7, 8GB, 512GB SSD would be backordered for a month?

Update on my Adorama iMac order:

1) Ordered Friday 11/13/15

2) Order processed and charged to my CC on Monday 11/16/15

3) Followed up with a call to Adorama today Monday 11/23/15 to see if they had any shipping information. I had not received any emails in the 7 days since the drop order was processed.

4) The Adorama rep had a Fed Ex tracking number and the iMac will arrive tomorrow Tuesday 11/23/15 from Fremont, CA. The iMac had been shipped 11/19/15 from the Apple Fremont plant.

So in summary I had to call Adorama to get tracking information. The order was shipped 3 days after my drop order processed and will arrive here (Colorado) 8 days post drop ship order.

Note one thing I did was sign up for Fed Ex's delivery manager which is similar to UPS My Choice. With this you can see what packages are scheduled to be delivered to you without needing a tracking number.

Here is my update on Adorama Order:

1. Ordered on Saturday, Nov 14th
2. Order was processed on Monday, Nov 16th - Meaning a drop ship order was placed with manufacturer on this day and the other bundled stuff (Apple Care, External DVD drive, etc..) was shipped by Adorama.
3. Apparently Apple shipped the iMac on Thursday Nov 19th. It was shipped from California. There was no update on my account page on Adorama but when I called Adorama on Friday, the 20th Adorama they gave me tracking number.
4. I received my iMac the same day, i.e. on Friday 20th via FedEx. Since I live in the nearby city it came the very next day.

The good news is the drop ships do arrive within a week or two. Bad news is we don't know when they are going to arrive until we call Adorama to get the tracking number

My new Imac arrived today


Here are the specs:

Apple iMac 27" with Retina 5K Display, 4.0GHz i7, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD, AMD Radeon R9 M390 2GB, OS X El Capitan (Late 2015)

Ordered from Adorama on the 6th. Was happy to get free AppleCare and no sales tax and some other discount. Total of $387 saved vs ordering direct from Apple.com.

Adorama claims that they dont charge your CC till the item ships. They emailed me on the 8th to say it was backordered as it was being drop shipped from the manufacturer. On the 9th, they charge my CC the full amount. I emailed them yesterday (13th) to ask the status and they reply:

According to the manufacturer, this is currently backordered and they estimate that this will be shipped out by the 1st week of December 2015.

I asked them to remove the charge from my CC till it ships.

Does anyone else with the same config see a backorder for a month if you ordered direct from Apple.com?
