Another question though: Is NeoOffice a decent alternative to MS Office? I want to hold of buying MS Office until it is updated.

It needs some time to start on my (now outdated 2.16 GHz 2GB) MacBook Pro, but once it gets running, it works like a charm. Definitely something to pass the time waiting for the next update of MS Office.

I will buy my MBP today in the Apple Store.
If there is a Sub-Notebook or a 13" MBP announced at WWDC I'll send my MBP back to Apple and buy the 13" one. ;)

iLife '07... that's something that didn't come to my mind. Maybe they might release that next week. If so, it's worth waiting a week to save on having to buy it later I guess :) .

Totally, that's how I feel. The iLife updates are pretty cool too, so along with my free iPod and new MacBook, maybe I could get some nice software as well

IMO if there are iLife updates this year they would of already happened.

I think they are too Leopard dependent.

MBP purchase question

I am planning on buying a mac (my first), either a Macbook with plenty of accessories or a MBP 15 in (lower configuration) soon. I qualify for the student discount, and hence not only receive a cheaper computer, but for a limited amount of time, $200 towards an ipod. I have been waiting for Leopard for a long time, and its delay really disappointed me, and reminded me of what will eventually be my old Windows days. I am trying to figure out if I should get the MBP soon and get the free ipod (even though I've already got a 5G video ipod) and pay for leopard later, or if I should wait for leopard and not have to pay for updates to iLife and iWork, and possibly have another update (however unlikely). School starts before the planned leopard release, but I can survive without a laptop and an iPod wouldn't be of much additional use to me (unless they release the 6G's at WWDC). My main fear is buying a computer that is obsolete a month after I buy it. Thanks for the help

I'm getting the same model, and my logic is this - if you can afford to wait a week, then why not? I highly doubt we'll see iLife 07 or anything else that will change my purchase, but you just never know.

Two reasons to wait:

1. Yes, that 13" "ultraportable" that people are hoping for...I say it's unlikely, but it could be an incredible machine, esp. if it has some sort of multitouch.

2. Amazon often offers a $150 rebate on MBPs and they usually bring out the new models a little after Apple releases them. With the rebate and "no taxes", Amazon could be the cheapest option around.
