I have the WIFI+LTE model with the AT&T Unlimited Plan. I turned off WIFI because I am concerned about privacy. I do not know if I can trust public WIFI networks. Plus, I want the GPS.

I don't have an iPad Pro, but I do have an older iPad WiFi + LTE and when I decide to replace it, I'll get another one with WiFi + LTE partially for the reasons you stated. Also, cellular coverage is spotty in places I sometimes travel to and I like having my phone on one network and an iPad on a backup network. My phone's on Verizon and my iPad's on T-Mobile. I buy 1 month data passes whenever I'm somewhere that Verizon doesn't cover well.

I could use VPN, but some public hot spots are already so slow I couldn't imagine trying to VPN over one. I'd love to be able to exist on WiFi only, but the time and hassle just isn't worth the savings.

I guess one advantage of having LTE is that people don't have to worry about security when doing online banking using their iPad.

Who does banking on their tablet? Do it on your phone! That said, security is one of the reasons why I prefer to have an extra LTE connection with me.

Maybe in the future i will get a lte iPad, for now the wifi only models works great because of personal hotspot.

When we had hurricanes come through Jacksonville, FL and lost electricity my cellular 10.5 iPad was a life saver. ATT even kicked in all the data for free! Also the GPS on the cellular model is awesome!

LTE is just a different network but that doesn’t make it more secure for banking per se.

I had one LTE iPad in the past, total waste of money for me, never used LTE.

WiFi only iPads for me. Outside of my commutes, I am always around private WiFi connections and am content with LTE on my phone when I need to check emails or the web.

I do not bank on my iPad, but I can understand that having an LTE iPad would be more desirable for that purpose.

Then wouldn't it make sense for someone like you to get the LTE version?

Absolutely, and all my iPads have had LTE. That was my point. :)

It hasn't happened recently, but we also (in eastern Massachusetts) have had hurricanes or tropical storms take out all utilities, and I agree, having an LTE connection (even a bad one, which is our case) makes a world of difference.

Speaking of that, recently I received a SMS from my phone company. They mentioned that in case of life and death emergency situations, some messages will show up on my phone. Don' know if such messages will show up on iPad. Is LTE required?

I always buy the LTE Cellular versions since iPAd1, currently on the 2nd gen 12.9” occasionally comes in handy, I dont like giving Qualcomm (POS company not much better than a patent troll) an extra £100 for it, Apple makes no money on that LTE version, Qualcomm takes that extra 100 we pay. But yup it does come handy and resale always way better. If you can spring for it worth it I’d say.

There’s WiFi everywhere.. fire up the vpn and off you go. I can’t remember the last time I had to use my hotspot

I have to use my hotspot all the time. More often than not, public wifi sucks and is much slower than LTE. Plus, travel internationally and you'll realize just how many places don't have wifi.

don't have to worry about security when doing online banking using their iPad.

That's what VPNs are for. I have a home VPN that I use when I want to do stuff like that over public wifi.

As to the original thread though, no, I don't regret getting the wifi only iPad. I can't see spending the extra money for that when I can just use my iPhone as a hotspot.

Internationally? I find the rest world has more wi-fi access than north america does. Every meeting I've gone to out of country has had no wi-fi issues. Plus when travelling, it's so much cheaper to get an in-country sim and I would tether the iPad from that.

Why? Have you ever heard of personal hotspot?
it's a battery drain and a pain from personal experience.

Rather have LTE ipad infact don't think i would buy anything but LTE now. So much better to have that data when you need it.

I use the data everyday at work so for me the usage works. For others it might not

I currently have the iPad Pro 10.5” LTE model and have no regrets buying it. Of course I could use my iPhone’s hotspot, but my cellular plan only lets you use 15 GBs of LTE speed. After that it goes down to 3G speed.

I had my iPad Pro sharing internet connection with my iPhone 6s Plus and did some tests side by side while on the bus.

1. In Map, my iPhone location cursor moved smoothly but on the iPad, it was jumpy. Any explanation?

2. As for accuracy, neither is the most accurate. Sometimes iPad was even better than the iPhone. Any explanation?
However, location indicator on the phone never appeared in the middle of buildings.

3. Am I correct that sharing internet connection with the phone also caused my iPad to lose battery power more quickly than when it is on wifi or not connected to the internet?

For the little extra investment, it is nice to have the option to use LTE when I want to pay for it. With the AW3 LTE version, sometimes I do not have my phone with me and would still like to use the iPad without WiFi - but very rarely. Anyway, the convenience is worth it to me. I don’t regret purchasing the IPP with WiFi + LTE.

Anybody has the answers?

I have a WiFi + LTE iPad Pro and I don't regret the purchase. But I'm seriously thinking about ditching the LTE on the next iPad. The difference in prices is not that huge and I have no additional costs for the second SIM but I noticed that I barely use the integrated LTE. Most of the time the iPad is used at home, a few weeks per year in Hotels with their WiFi and a VPN connection... and for these rare moments without WiFi I could easily use a Personal Hotspot.

Exactly. I've always gotten the LTE version but it has become less and less needed. It used to be more of a pain to use the personal hotspot feature of the phone. In the last year or two or three it has gotten progressively better. My iPhone 8 on LTE now gets unheard of speeds compared to a few years ago.

My next iPad (next spring) will be WiFi only.

When t-mobile stopped offering the free 250mb a month plan I stopped getting LTE models and just use personal hotspot through my att iPhone. The 250mb a month plan was perfect for me as it was enough for 10 months out of the year, so just ended up paying for 2 months a year.

I have a free tablet data line through T-Mobile so for me it wasn’t a hard decision to get the LTE iPad 10.5

What is the ugly looking bandage thing behind the LTE version of iPad PRO 12.9 2017? I bought the WiFi version but have not opened the box since my screen protector has not arrived due to back order. Considering to get the LTE version. Still thinking...

I have always had Wi-Fi only. I try not to transport my iPad too much (security reasons...) so I am always in a place where there is Wi-Fi. If I need to use internet on-the-go I just use my iPhone. I have used the hotspot a few times when Wi-Fi doesn't work, but it drains the battery of my iPhone 6s (you say there's drain on a 6s+ so imagine on a standard 6s) so I try not to use it that much.

Once you go LTE for the iPad it’s hard going back portability increases ten fold. I have no regrets especially it being such a simple addition to an already existing wireless plan, especially if you have unlimited
