iPad Any rumours for the March iPads?

Just wondering if there's any rumours or hints at what might be coming for next years iPad event?

I've no interest in the Pro line as my iPad is a media device, so Netflix, amazon etc. The pro is massive overkill for my needs.

Currently have the 2017 iPad and am looking to upgrade next year.

So interested in any hints as to what to expect?

I’m pretty sure this batch will be the preius metal plated ones. Apple’s sales of 2018 weren’t as good as 2017, so they’ll need to recoup the loss by offering a iPad mini 5 with gold plating and a pure sapphire screen. The regular size iPad will be platinum with diamond glass. Internals will be A10 for mini and A11 for 9.7”.

No, I imagine the mini will get simple internal upgrades (A10) and the 9.7” probably will get the 10.5” body with A11 chip.

Kuo has pointed to an iPad Mini refresh with a non-laminated panel like the 2018 iPad, so presumably it would also support the first gen Apple Pencil.

I don’t see them using the 10.5 design as a 2019 iPad... not for $329.

This is the bit I hate. The battery on my iPad 2017 isn't great. If I knew for sure they wouldn't be releasing a decent upgrade this year I'd just get the battery replaced and keep it another year. But if they are then I'll just deal with it till March and upgrade.

March is just a few months away. Unless your current ipad’s battery has made it impractical to meet your needs, I would suggest waiting just to be sure.

I will wait. It just annoys me having no idea wether I’ll be waiting for nothing.

If I was wanting an IPhone I know 100% there will be a new one in September.

But the iPads have been much more random. There was no update for ages after the Air 2. The iPad mini releases have been random too. No update for that for a while.

So it’s annoying knowing I could wait three months and have nothing appear. Maybe this year they’ll skip the 9.7” and just update the mini etc.

I am surprised your battery is already that bad after a year. Especially given the size of the batteries on these, people keep them for years on the original battery. Maybe you need to do a fresh redo of the OS, I really can’t imagine an iPad battery degrading that much over a year

I concur with this. I’m still using my Air 2 on its original battery and while it’s definitely not original capacity, it’s still doing pretty well.

I’m going to do a restore and set up as new to be sure it’s not an app etc but I’m getting around 5 hours screen on time.

Used to be 10+ hours.

That's just the nature of the beast, so to speak. Flagship phones get released every year like clockwork, but most other products are less predictable, and not just with Apple.

I predict that the 2018 iPad and new iPad mini will use A11 or A12 Bionic processors, not the X versions, the basic ones, from the phones. I predict USB-C will be used, as all Apple products previously using lightning are going there. I still see 2 gig of RAM likely. It sounds like Apple will downgrade the display from the mini 4, maybe with a thicker shell, more like the mini 2/3, just as the 2017 iPad was built on an Air 1 case. I predict pencil support is added to the mini. Both will remain only two speakers. Storage might bump to 64/256, tho perhaps not.

What do you expect to see?

Prior to the iPad Pro keynote, there were rumors of a refreshed iPad mini also being released. Since we didn't see it Fall 2018, I expect it'll probably be released for Spring 2019. My guess is A10/2GB with Lightning connector.

I'm really wishing for A11, 3GB+ RAM and fully laminated displays on the new "entry-level" iPad models, though. If that happens, I'm guessing Apple will probably discontinue the Pro 10.5.

No rumours, but the likeliest case is that the iPad 6 will be spec bumped again to an A11 (perhaps A12 depending on the supply chain logistics (using up some of the 3GB A12s originally destined for XRs if they were already produced, or the contract was to make so many and Apple couldn't back out etc etc)). Slightly less likely but still worth a punt is that it will come with a new mini alongside it - presumably iPad mini 3 chassis, same A11/12 and pencil support.

Yeah, Android tablets are basically not a thing anymore. Aside from the Galaxy Tab and Nexus models, they never really took off. The 2nd gen Nexus 7 was actually my first tablet. I really liked it!

I think Amazon is still making fire tablets.

I had a Nexus tablet, ordered it when they first released. Talk about launch issues and a lack of QA. They had some faulty glue issue and half the tablets had unglued screens. What a mess! I returned mine, checked another in store, and called it a day, then re-ordered several months later once they sorted their production. It was a great tablet (once all the parts were assembled properly, LOL).

Fire Tablets are still around and fairly popular, I think. But they're more like glorified e-readers than full fledged tablets. I don't think that they even have access to the full Google Play Store, just the Amazon version of it.

Sure, but the fact that you need a work around just to access the full Android app ecosystem only goes to show that they are intended mainly to be e-readers, basic media devices, and vehicles to sell more Amazon products rather than full fledged tablets like an iPad.

I’m not knocking the Fire Tablets though. They’re fine for what they are, and VERY modestly priced compared to even the cheapest iPads.
