Sorry just saw this. eBay, in the UK. Sold the S3 stainless steel for £379 and my partner's S3 grey aluminium for £239. The aluminium one sold the day after it was listed. My stainless steel took over a week and a price drop to move it. Both were fixed price listings. Auctions make me a bit OCD.

Trying to sell mine, but taken it off eBay due to the huge fees. Listed through Shpock and Facebook Marketplace to maximise the sale.

IMO the ceramic was only good for the hardness of it and mine never picked up a scratch or any sign of wear and tear unlike my space black in which it’s “DLC” coating did little to prevent scratches.

But to buy a $2000AU watch here and have it not even worth half a year later is rediculous.

For me as well the sapphire glass is a must so aluminium is out.

The gold plated stainless steel in the leaked series 4 pic looks like a good hopefully affordable option

My ceramic still looks pristine and that’s the thing I love most about it.

Yep, the fees are ridiculous on eBay, but we get regular £1 final value fee promotions in the UK now. So basically every month I put up a whole bunch of free placeholder listings then edit them when I want to sell something. That's pretty much becoming common practise here for eBayers as long your account isn't business. They should roll this out across all eBay territories. Really makes life easier.

Didn’t even know that was a thing!

Somewhat not related to your post, but the reason I think eBay is becoming a trap for many to sell is not just due to the inserted eBay and PayPal fees, it’s because the amount of fraud that eBay is correlated with Apple products.

Apple products are some of the most popular tech products in the world for resale, and the amount of people that are subject to fraud is astronomical on there every day (Loads of threads on here, Reddit, ect discussing the problems/ways of being frauded). I think it’s such a risk to even sell on there anymore, when I think locally would be the better option, even if that means taking a price cut. Even though I have been fortunate to never be a victim of eBay/Internet fraud, Ebay has made me plenty of money in the past, but no longer will I take that risk of someone trying to take my money and my valuable time away from me, when I can altogether avoid digital strangers on the Internet for selling.

I totally agree, really not worth it anymore.

Sold my SS S3 for £400 on eBay the other day. Using the £1 listing. It went within an hour, so very pleased!

Really hoping this year we still have Ceramic, as I don’t think I’ll be getting a Series 5, so worth while getting the Ceramic 4 and keeping it a long time!

The Hermès and ceramic definitely don’t hold their values at all.

I paid AUD$1689 for a S3 Hermès plus $159 for AppleCare+ and I only sold it for $850 on gumtree (local classified website/app).

I love the leather straps and watch faces but only getting 45% of what I paid for doesn’t seem worth it anymore...

You’re right. The one thing I will say about the Hermès Apple Watch, is that there is quite a bit a demand for the Hermes watchbands online that others want sold separately, even if there used, because they are such high-quality, they’re extremely durable and well Made.

Doh! I didn’t know that. I looked on eBay and they seem to sell around 50% of the value anyway?

I tried selling the watch without the Hermès leather band and there was no interest at all and people were asking to have the band included.

I think the ceramic or Edition watch really needs its own watch faces for further differentiation from the standard versions.

50% is about the best I expect from resale of general consumer items.

For good and bad, that is what Apple Watch is now. What iPhone is now.

I see same folks at Apple Store as at Wal-Mart.

Getting back to materials, I'd love to see any of the following cases for a S4 Edition:

-Titanium (with or without color options)
-Ceramic (especially in a lighter grey, which is what I was hoping for with S3)
-Liquidmetal (remember those old rumors??)

That said, I plan to get stainless steel to match my iPhone X!

I would welcome titanium, just because it’s a far lighter metal. But the 316 L stainless is excellent, but on the weightier side of things.

Same here, I'd love a posh case material but not with such a large weight penalty. 42mm Stainless steel is 20grams heavier than the 42mm aluminium. (52.8g v 32.3g).

Depending on strap choices you can very easily end up with a watch that weighs twice as much. Fine for a lot of people but I'm awkward. I want a posh looking smartwatch that feels super light on my wrist when training.

Stainless steel still has a lot of advantages though, the main one for Apple I guess is the scratch resistance. Titanium is pretty soft in comparison unfortunately. Is stainless steel easier to keep shiny too? Not sure how the shine of metals works.. if that's some sort of manufacturing finish or partially dependant of a metal's unique properties..

I posted this earlier for another member earlier today: It should answer your question.

I have only bought regular stainless steel and black stainless steel, listed are my thoughts below:

1.) The 316L Stainless steel- has a high shine, but it’s very soft dense metal that does scratch very easily, but it can be restored to remove any scratches or scuffs with a polishing cloth. But you want to make sure the polishing cloth does _not_ make contact with display, which can cause a reaction to the oleophobic coating. The band pairing with 316 L regular stainless watch is almost infinite, as everything looks good with it.

2.) The Black Stainless with the DLC coating- with the black stainless watch, includes a diamond like carbon coating that protects the casing, which is almost impervious to any type of damage at all, and my black stainless Apple Watch never even had a scratch on the casing at all due to that protective layer. If You are someone who is concerned about scratches or damage to the watch, I would highly recommend the black stainless Apple Watch, the only drawback is sometimes the band pairing can be more limited because of the black casing.

As far is the weight is concerned, it is significantly heavier over the aluminum Apple Watch, but I find that you will adjust to the weight rather quickly once you start wearing it.

Resale values on ceramics are ridiculously low at the moment. CEX are buying series 2’s for less than £300 and Series 3’s fur less than £500. eBay isn’t much better either.
Will be interesting to see if Apple do an edition watch tomorrow and if so then if they continue with Ceramic

Titanium naturally oxidises on contact with air which gives it that classic flat grey finish. It can also be polished and surface hardened to protect it from scratches and oxidation, Seiko and Citizen are masters at this technique.

So glad I sold mine for above that then.

I doubt they would do ceramic, I’m thinking it’s a new material for Edition.

Even if it was suitable as a case material, the Swatch Group have an exclusive license to use Liquidmetal in watches so that's probably not going to happen.
There are other, similar alloys available, if Apple is interested. Not sure what the precise appeal would be - these alloys basically look like most any metal. Visually not terribly dissimilar from stainless or whatever, which is cheaper and easier to machine.
