Re:New iPods with Panther-okay, no offense, but if you're still using Panther on your main machine, you've had over 2 years to upgrade to Tiger, besides, Apple will likely be discontinuing security updates for Panther anytime now. And, if you're waiting for Leopard, I think one can last 4 weeks without an iPod to sync..

(Please don't kill me; Just my OPINION)

Some of us upgrade every other major release.

Your useless opinion has been noted.:p

That's not the point, OS X is Apple's OS. They're giving support to 99.9% of Windows users, why can't they do the same for their Mac userbase?

Keep in mind that 99.9% of iPod owners are Windoze users.;)

iTunes 7.4 works for 10.3, so I don't see why the iPods can't.

I agree with your point here. If the software can work with the old operating system, why not the hardware?

I called Apple about this and asked that if I were to purchase Tiger this close to Leopard's release that if they would be able to give me some sort of credit towards Leopard. Their simple answer.... "We cannot say yes or no at the moment as we have yet to hear any announcements regarding this issue."

Can anyone confirm at this point that the OS requirement for the new iPod classic is not just a bluff by apple?

I just got the prompt to download iTunes 7.4: "adds new iPod shuffle, iPod Nano, iPod classic and iPod touch support to iTunes" - err… so apparently it should work fine.

If I plug in my iPod and it says I'm not using 10.4, I am assuming all I'd need to do is spoof the iPod into thinking I'm running 10.4. I have the software required for the iPod. It works on 10.3.

I wish someone with one of the new iPods would be able to test it on a 10.3 machine.:(

I do have 10.3 lying around somewhere, I can test it with my new shuffle that's due to arrive soon. There should be NO reason why the new shuffle colors will not work with 10.4, they only added new colors, no hardware changes IIRC from the January 2007 refresh, or even from September 2006, so that in my opinion is ridiculous ugh..

Thanks, but it may not be necessary. I'm sure you saw the new topic, Doh! My new nano won't work with my Mac!

Very sad indeed :(
