I'm encouraged by this thread and all the chatter on twitter. Looks very solid. As an ATT subscriber, I've never really considered the unlock, but now I may do it just so I can use my phone when I travel (most often to Mexico). I'll see if I can by a PAYG Sim in Mexico. If so, BlackSn0w here I come!

My Iphone won't reboot after BlackRa1n RC3 and blacksn0w

The apple stays on continuously and I can't get it to do anything, like turn off or sync or reboot.

I connected it to my computer to try to jumpstart a response, but it didn't even register on my PC... it usually beeps to let me know when I have connected hardware like this.

HELP! I am terrified I have destroyed my phone.

Thanks

same here.. i have two 3Gs phones and trying to use tmobile on there. i got one to work JB and unlock using blackrain, but the other one just stay at the final step with geohot's photo on there and it wouldn't complete the reboot. afterwhich, i had to DFU and restore back to 3.1.2 via itune and tried again, which still didn't work. :( so now it only works with att sim :(

help!

Try this:
1 hold down home AND power buttons at the same time until the iPhone turns off

2 plug your iPhone to the computer WHILE holding down the home button

3 restore to factory settings

4 let me know if it worked

cheers

Jailbreak and Unlock successful

Working fine on Vodafone UK

Successfully installed custom IPCC file which works fine. Interestingly, before I applied my custom IPCC file, the option to setup Internet Tethering was available, but when I selected it, it said I had to contact Vodafone UK to set it up.

Could this be a sign of things to come?

Where does one acquire the custom IPCC file for Vodafone UK?

Chris, when you updated on itunes to 3.1.2 did you keep your V/fone simcard in or use an o2 one? i am on an unlocked 3g on 3.0 from ultrasnow and am unsure which sim if any to have in when i update on itunes, also can i set up from backup once unlocked again?
Thanks in advance

I was jailbroken on 3.1.2 with 5.11.07 using PwnageTool, and installed blacksn0w just now through Cydia. Three seconds later I am the proud owner of an unlocked 3GS. Didn't even require a reboot!

Just did it. was so easy and my move to vodafone can now go ahead. Someone mentioned that if you run out of battery you will need to do it again. Don't suppose you have any info on that?

Step Guide?

Is there a step by step guide to run blackra1n properly?

Setup:
2g iphone, 2.4 OS
unlocked (and maybe JB, but never used any non-apple store apps)
t-mobile
windows pc

all i need is it unlocked.

From what i understand, i need to upgrade my OS to 3.1.2 in itunes. close itunes, run blackra1n, click let it rain, connect my iphone to the pc, and it does it's magic and reboots.

Will my phone be unlocked at this point or just JB? if it isn't unlocked, what steps do i still need to take?

thanks

You should use pwnage tool to unlock with 3.1.2

See this tutorial:

If you're on Windows, see this thread about getting hold of a custom-made ipsw:

I made my own here

When I updated I actually put the O2 SIM in as I want to activate (not hacktivate) so that I can get push notifications. BlackRa1n will now support hacktivation, so if you don't need/want push notifications, then just leave the Vodafone SIM in during the process and it will hacktivate.

I restored to the stock Apple firwware first, activated, did a full restore of my backup, sync'ed all apps and music across and then ran BlackRa1n. Once BlackRa1n had finished I installed Cydia and BlackSn0w from the BlackRa1n app. Tested Cydia and then removed the BlackRa1n app. Done!

Nah, you can unlock 3.1.2 with the 05.11.07 baseband now using BlackRa1n and BlackSn0w. No problems at all

You only have to do this if you have got the 3GS with the new bootrom

Blacksn0w worked ok. I had lost WIFI though.

I did the reset network settings as mentioned in his blog and it rebooted, crashed, displayed a sad face and entered safe mode.

I restarted and on the main setting screen it say "NO WIFI" where it would normally say "Off", "Not connected" or the name of thr router.

After another off on cycle it was back to normal. Put in my password and it's connected ok.

I tried the iPhone with a PAYG Orange SIM and it works fine.

I was successful with blackra1n and blacksnow. My first attempt at testing tethering resulted in the option being disabled. Reinstalled the tethering file a second time and got it to work.

One odd thing, is that my speaker sounds in general are not as loud as before. Noticeably the clicks to unlock, ringtone, and some sounds in apps are roughly half as loud.

Update: The volume problem seems common to the 3.1/3.1.2 OS.

So i'll have to do this everytime I run out of juice until o2 give me my official unlock code? Ooops.

But my ex's 3G won't need it if the phone runs out of juice?
