I am starting a podcast in my spare time just for hobby. I am in need of a logo to display in the itunes store. If anyone wants a little project to hone their skills I would love to let you have a shot. I realize that this is a favor for me and I appreciate anyone that is willing to help. I cannot pay for a logo and understand if nobody can do one for free but you never know until you ask.

Thanks in advance.

Post specifically what you want here, that way someone browsing can see this thread and decide to start making it right away rather than contacting you, waiting for a response, then getting started. :)

Here you go. No charge.

You can't pay or you won't pay?

I realize we're not talking a 4-figure design fee here. Just keep in mind most professional designers (like most professionals in any field) are very hesitant to give up their services for free. Even offering something small (i.e. a little cash, a cheap iPod, a random trinket) in exchange for a small logo design would go a long way toward getting you what you want.

To borrow a line from the Joker.... "If you're good at something, never do it for free."

Yeah, I say offer $100 or something. I know it's just a hobby, but you might pay that for a mic that made your podcast sound better or software to make it easier to produce. At least throw $50 to some poor student...

Sorry, I guess maybe you're being sarcastic? Anyway, in case you weren't: Probably not a good idea even if no money's involved. e.g., what if two eager volunteers spent a bunch of time on this -- each expecting the payback to be that someone uses the logo. Someone's going to feel very disappointed.

Although I am not a fan of Spec work, you can't honestly afford even a $20 iTunes voucher for someone's help/expertise?

And remember the Joker's Razor "If you’re good at something, never do it for free."

Hate these kinds of posts. There should be a forum rule that says you can't ask for free design unless you're a non-profit.

I like how he thinks logo design is "a little project". My guess is that he's a hit and run poster. Post enough requests and eventually someone is stupid enough to do the work for him. He'll grab the work and you'll never see him again.

I didnt ask for a professional to design a logo. I asked for someone that needed some experience. I am working on honing my video editing skills and I do projects from time to time for people FOR FREE. Why? Well, I enjoy editing video and I need the experience. If you are not a novice 'graphic designer' then I obviously wasnt talking to you. If you are a novice I was talking to you and would have gladly given you a little something after you did it(regardless of if you asked).

Sorry I was so offensive to you but keep in mind that I wasnt talking to any of the pro's that so politely responded to this post.

It's funny, I really didnt expect anyone to take me up on my offer and when I logged on and saw 10 reply's I was excited until I started reading them.

Wont happen again.

How successful have you been going up to doctors just out of med school and getting them to examine you for free so they can "hone their skills"? I'm just curious - what is it about my profession that you somehow undervalue and refuse to take seriously?

For God's sake! I'd like to offer you some perspective — no charge. The OP said it's a hobby. This is clearly not a professional job, and using the term "profession" distorts it. This could be one podcast hobbiest to one design hobbiest.

Based on this forum alone, you'd assume the design community are a lot less charitable and a lot more precious with their time and passion than their video and audio cousins. And boy do they pounce on anyone thinking in anything other than economic terms! I'm genuinely curious as to why that seems to be so much more than in other professions.

Now, I'm not knocking the idea of offering something in return — it needn't be hard cash, but it might be an idea for the OP to offer something in exchange for the logo, even if it's just to pimp the designer in the podcasts. A token. And it might also be a good idea to somehow limit the number of people potentially sweating away on a design, only to be told another design has already picked.

That's my two cents. I'll be passing round the collection tray.

You are completely off base. You are ignoring the context of my original post. If you have a problem with this than I dont know what to tell you but you guys need to get a life.

<snip>you guys need to get a life.

I wasn't going to get involved here, because I think your welcome to ask for what ever you like and it's up to the other members to reply if they want to help...

But please remember that designers are people too, and we all hold different opinions on things. Don't let the actions of some make you believe we are all alike. It's like saying "that black man is being arrested, I'm now racist and think everyone with dark skin is evil" - it's just not true.

/Doug

Disclaimer: I'm not racist and don't mean to cause offence to anyone. I was merely trying to illustrate a point

I completely agree and understand what you are saying. Im not shocked by the responses that I got. I am a part of many online forums and almost all of them have a group of people that get lost in their own little world. They attack anyone that ask a reasonable question because they have been asked it before. I just know that this forum is not a place to ask for such a thing now. Thanks for your input.

Hey OP - I was a little harsh. And I apologize for that. I think I posted that before I had my coffee. And considering I gave up caffeine and don't drink coffee, I'm not sure why I am making that excuse.

I freely admit I tend to overreact when people ask for free work - no matter the scope. Personally, I find it disrespectful. Others find it elitist. Both viewpoints are certainly valid.

Most of the regular posters on this board are at least semi-professionals. And we're used to answering general and technical questions about design and various design programs. No one actively solicits design work on here. So when someone comes on asking for a "quick favor," some of us find it a little jarring.

You did make it clear that you're doing this as a hobby. You did make it clear that you are not in a position to compensate anyone for their design work. I appreciate that. But please understand that most of us here are not doing design work as a hobby, but rather as a profession to keep food on the table. Without offering a little something as an appreciation for the time spent working with you - even something small like a gift card - you're not going to find too many people eager to help.

In retrospect, we could probably be a bit nicer about telling you that though.

So. That being said, you might have better luck approaching students or interns. There may be some on this board willing to help. Unfortunately, I don't know where else to specifically point you to get you a logo with your lack of a budget.

Good luck with your project and podcast.

Thanks, I appreciate that. My point was to find someone that does graphic work just like I do video work(at home for fun). I didnt know that this was a designated 'pro' forum or I wouldnt have posted here. Thanks for the good wishes on the podcast. I have received a logo design from an acquaintance that has photoshop(he is not a graphic designer, he just plays around) and it is probably going to be what I use.

I know everyone's made their apologies, but I'll throw my two pence worth in anyway.

In the UK at least, meds quite frequently "hone their skills" for free, I get my teeth serviced for free by student dentists at the local dental hospital. They get the experience of having a poke round my mouth, I get free dental care.

The Idea is that when your inexperienced you do things for free or for only a little cash incentive in order to gain experience. Surely all of you 'pro' designers shouting this guy down must have done an internship at some point?? I think its a shame how hostile these forums can be at some points, the guys just asking for a favor. It's a pity no one was willing to help him out, but there's absolutely no call for reception he received.

I don't see how this is any different than a photographer doing a free "portfolio building" shoot. People need practice to hone their skills and this isn't a dedicated graphic design forum, this is a mac forum so there is no reason to suspect that all users here are pros. This board has a tendency to overreact, I think.

I give advice in my area of professional expertise for free without even thinking. Why is this different?

OP: If I could design something for you I would, but I'm not a designer and I reckon you don't want a picture of stick people
