Cool beans. Ironically even though I am a very very happy Mac user (I have 6 mac laptops and 1 Powermac G3), I still have to use a PC laptop to run certain programs that don't work well in emulation such as SPSS or SAS, etc. etc. Math intensive statistical crunching. Also I know that Mac users have a limited selection of games as well.

So do you use a PC laptop in addition to your Mac and why? :) (no flaming dudes, it's a question of practicality). And no, I'm no Windoze lover either.

Also I love my IBM Thinkpad 600E series laptop. To be honest, I think that IBM makes very durable and good quality laptops comparable to Apple although Apple's computers are much more stable. But the Thinkpad does have one virtue which is interchangeability. For example, I don't have to dislodge around 40 screws just to replace a hard drive :) Only the Powerbook G3 have that ability as well.

I have a quicksilver 933 and a p4 1.8 tower running side by side, then I also use my compaq armada e500 for in class notes. I am currently working towards my CIS degree and some software from the school i use is not always cross platform. It nice being able to switch between the two when I need.

I have a Dell desktop that I use quite a bit. It's not that bad but I much prefer the Macs. I like having the different perspective of how a computer should be run.

I'm just about to buy a bottom-range Dell notebook for my granddad. He's never going to switch and he's been on PCs his whole life. He doesn't need anything heavy-duty (he has a Dell desktop for that) so I figure he can't go wrong with an Inspiron.

Am I a bad person?

Or am I a bad crab? Hmm...

My main machines are a PowerMac G4 and PowerBook G4. But I also have 2 Dell laptops - a Latitude D600 and an Inspiron 3800. They are used for some specific work-related purposes where the software/hardware just isn't available on the Macs. I also do a heap of statistics and there is one particular add-on for the PC Excel (Analyse-It) that is invaluable. The UK company that wrote it has no plans to produce a Mac version. Interestingly, there is what I think of as the best piece of stats software (StatView) that was originally written for the Mac and then became available on PC. They never updated it for OSX (or hadn't at my last look) and I cannot be doing with having OS 9 on either of my two Macs - so I use the Dells for StatView work.

I have a PC, along with the 2 Macs in my signature, and my PC gets turned on, oh maybe twice a month for the odd time I have to run some Windows software (typically Access or something for school). I usually finish my assignments in class in the computer lab, so I rarely need to use the PC in my dorm.

It may get more use if I decide to turn it into a PVR. Still deciding between that and a Tivo

I have a PC desktop, but the only time I use it is for games.
And hardly ever then either.
My wife uses it, cause i can't afford to buy her a mac yet.

Ever since I got my pbook (almost a year ago) I can't stand sitting at the desktop.
I even using the pbook for gaming now (battlefront, KOTOR, UT2004).

I can't see myself ever using a PC agaain, unless its absoloutely necessary.

I know this is not a Windows bashing thread,
but another reason I prefer to use a Mac over Windows is that I always felt the need to customize my Windows desktop very heavily, and it never felt 'just right'.
I love the OSX interface, and have only changed a few icons, not even my desktop pic. It just feels right.

I'm a mac wannabe, Just wanna be a mac user :)

Truthfully, I couldn't see my using PC after I can afford to make the switch. I recently used Ubuntu for about 2 weeks and was amazed at how fast I could drop windows. I don't use my computer for much besides internet, word processing and photo-editing. A barebones mini would probably be sufficent for me but I want a pimped out MacBook Pro. Gaming isn't an issue for me, I have consoles and the only PC game I play is Windows Solitare (I'm sure OS X has an equivalent)

While surfing the net last night I came across this program: http://osx.portraitofakite.com/ It's an excellent program now my computer looks just like a mac and acts almost like one.

I have a Gateway desktop at work that sits next to my Powerbook (not much Mac support here in France among IT sorts) monitoring my Exchange email :D . It also sees use for Origin data plotting software, which doesn't exist for OS X. Other than that, it's Apple all the time. My wife has a crappy Compaq notebook provided by her work, but hey, it's free. I keep meaning to get her time on my PB to fall in love with OS X, but I can't seem to part with it long enough

I've got a Sony laptop that's actually half decent. I bought a second hand iMac to use for music and watching DVDs but have found I use it all the time as I like it so much more.

The laptop is going to my parents now...

No mad jew, you are neither a bad person or a bad crab. :)

I even own a ***ducks head in shame*** Dell Dimension desktop computer that I use to play my windows only games from time to time. Every time that I boot the Dell up, it serves as a reminder of why I love Mac OS so much more than Windows! :)

I've got Mac's at home by choice and a PC for work. There are things I like and dislike about both and I'd be quite happy using MSXP at home too if was as hassle-free regarding viri and malware etc. as my system at work (of course I'll not be employing and IT consultant or spending any money so hence the Apple stuff at home).

The other advantage Apple has is that when I last was in the market their offerings were cheaper compared to those from HP/Sony/et al but things seem to have moved a bit and their hardware is looking a bit lacking compared to some rivals now. Fingers crossed for the Intel Macbook lines over the next couple of months.

I have a Dell dimension desktop that is mainly used for folding and keeping my bedroom warm. I picked it up a few years ago really cheap. I didn't buy it with a real purpose in mind, it was just one of those "OMG that's a good deal" things.

I have a PC that I use for basically gaming and working on games (since I'm in college for game art) and then I use my Powerbook for internet access, general crap, etc. The wallstreet (as you may gather from my other thread) is not quite working yet but I'm trying to work on it.

I have a Dell Insprion 8200 (almost 4 years old) that I use every once in a blue moon to get my gaming fix or to fiddle with some version of Linux that I install on the second partion. But, ever since I got my PB in January, this has been my primary computer. I hardly ever turn on my other one any more (due to lack of time to play games or use Linux).

I <3 my PB.

I have a desktop PC as well as my mac. I also use a Dell laptop. The laptop is distributed by my company and I'm forced to use it most of the day. But I keep both setups next to each other.

When I travel, since buying my mac, I often wish that I had a powerbook. But this is impossible.

My mac is the first computer I've ever owned that I think about when I'm not home. Tragically geeky in some psuedo-sexual way I fear. I think of my mac while travelling all most as much as I think about my wife and children. ;)

I have an iMac G5 which I love, and an old Dell desktop (~700mhz Pentium 2 or 3...I forget) that now pretty much sits in the basement unused since I switched.

I do still use windows almost every day though, on a nice ThinkPad T41 laptop, for work. Very nice machine, but I don't really use it except for work. Purposefully crippled to not have wireless due to security concerns.

Which is why I'm looking to pick up a new home laptop right away...12" PowerBook or maybe whatever the the new iBook turns out to be. Hurry up Apple!

I used a desktop PC running Windows for a while.
Now I wish I had it back! I was running Reason 3.0
on my Compaq, because Reason was too slow on
my 800mhz iMac. I sold the Compaq to buy my
Macbook Pro. Once the application is universal,
then it will be great, but running it emulated, it
is terribly slow. I have this interim period where
running Reason is a bad idea.

I wish I had about a 1.5ghz, 512mb PC laptop
so that I could do some Windows foolery when
I needed, but I'm quite short on money at the
moment.
