I got a xp box sp2 running @ 2.6Ghz celeron/256mb ram/40GB hdd/dvd-rw/cdrw(dual drives) but the only time i'm acually sitting there is rebooting it after doing surgery on it :D

because the rest of stuff i can do on my slow G3 :( ..

but since i'm the tech admin in the house,i can troubleshoot the xp box from my G3 iMac via xp serverside and OS X viewer

With those 2 apps then you can view xp on the mac and have full control of windows:eek:  :D

if any1 needs help on setting up a vnc system on there network just PM on here and i'll walk ya thru the install and setup process  :D

Mad your a good mate: not a bad person nor a crab :p

I've got a Compaq Desktop (Sempron 3100+ running XP and Debian Linux) and a PowerBook (G4 1.33) at home, and a Dell Linux box (P4 3GHz) as my workstation in the office. Surprisingly, I enjoy using all three nearly the same, but if I had to order them, it'd be:

1 - PowerBook
2 - Home Comp.
3 - School Comp - the locations of all the ports/etc on this thing are silly, so it loses points.

Each OS has it's pro's and cons - OS X, I think, is the best of both worlds - the ease-of-use of a mainstream OS and the power of a Unix-like OS. The PB is the best computer I've ever owned, from a form factor/use/reliability standpoint, but when I need to do some heavy lifting, I usually look towards the other computers. The G4 is considerably slower than the other two. I'm looking forward to the 12" MacBook Pro, whenever that comes out.

I recently picked up a Mac and use it almost exclusively. I was using my PC to load songs onto my Dell DJ still, but found out how to do that on a Mac. Right now, I only use the PC for a handful of tasks, including Photoshop 7. At the moment, I don't have the cash to pick up a Mac version, so I'm using the PC version for the time being. Also, I'm taking a computer class (very easy) in which you can take your tests online. The catch is that you must be using Internet Explorer and a version of Windows. So, I use the PC for that.

I have a variety of Macs plus a Gateway laptop that I use for work (I am an IT Director and I have a number of custom apps that require non emulated Windows) and a custom built for games.

However my pc is an Shuttle Xpc SN41G2V3 with 2gb of ram and a 6800gt 256mb card in it . Oh counter-stike , I love this game. If macs were better for gaming then it would be goodbye pc, but!

I switched from Windows about 6 months ago and rarely look back.

I do keep my old Acer laptop around though, in the same way I keep an old pair of trainers in case I have to walk over a muddy field or something. :D

i got my first real mac back in september for school and before then ive used mostly PCs. Ive done alot of work with PCs at my school (aka trying to beef up my resume for college) and used to have a powermac 9600 as my main computer a few years ago. i have my pc at college but its not hooked up. i only would use it for games anyways. i switched b/c i got so tired of having to "know" how to fix my computer. windows is so plauged with problems that i could just not take it anymore. i wish i got into macs earlier, i loved the G4 quicksilvers so much when they came out. G5s just arent the same

interesting thread. i have a windows machine that i built from scratch a few years ago. it's sort of the heart of my recording studio, running a creative audigy 2 platinum for 24-bit sound. 2.8 ghz p4 overclocked to 3.2 ghz, 1 gb ddr, 800 mhz system bus, 400 gb worth of 7200 rpm 8mb cache hd space, etc. it's a fast machine, and (being over two years old) has aged quite well. seeing as how i built it myself, it's a pretty decent machine. if there's one thing i can't stand it's the windows pc market... they advertise a machine with a 'blazing fast' 3.6 ghz p4, all the while neglecting to mention the fact that the system bus is only 400 mhz. or like when they tell you you're getting 1 gb of ram, only to find that it's spread out over 4 dimms. stupid companies boasting 'impressive' specs that appeal to a consuming public with no idea as to what they're getting in to. and for that, i say long live apple.

I have a P4 2.8 GHz with geforce 5950 and about 250 gigs of storage.

I use it primarily for games and video encoding.
Honestly, OSX doesn't have anything comparable to Gordian Knot for video encoding (as far as i can find) or as good a media player for h264 inside mkv as media player classic.
So basically...i have it hooked up to a nice dell 2005fpw and watch movies and game on it.

I use my powerbook for all real work though.

Well the PC laptop we have at home is not mine, it's mom's (she uses it for autoCAD if she has to work at home), but I sometimes use it as a second computer on LAN, so I can play games with my friends over the ethernet.

My main computer is a quicksilver 867 G4. I prefer to use that whenever possible, but I have a few applications for work that are pc only. For that I used the old inspiron 8100 running xp pro that I got from my dad cause he never uses it. What sucks is that the dell crashes quite frequently - and windows says it has to do with a device driver, but doesn't give info into which one and doesn't give a resolution. On top of that, it has problems connecting via vpn - it maybe connects 20-50% of the time. All the other times, it says it can't establish the connection.

I hook them both up to my crt via the iogear kvm usb switch, which actually works quite well. Sometimes I consider getting a cheap laptop or pc desktop just so I don't have to deal with this one, but I don't work from home all that much so it's not a huge issue, just annoying.
