MY Set up

My Listening Room
3673399987_71ff703031.jpg

this is my little room that i play my music in, play guitar, record stuff in. the main problem is that there is not much insulation(cause we have a shop and i worked on a little listening room.) and there is a lot of dust. i need to get like an ionic breeze or something and an anti-static/dust gun or whatever.

My Amp
3673408401_06948ae0ab.jpg

this is my trusty Pioneer SX-450. My Dad had one in the 70s. was using it until it started to have some issues, and then didn't want to ruin the family Heirlooms any more.;)

My Turntable
3673408623_448f6afec6.jpg

Ok, now this one is my Dad's Original. Still awesome. has 2 main issues(which are kinda connected). It is Direct Drive so when i do some rippings to my Mac, i get some vibration, and also it dosn't spin as flat as i would like.:(

My Speakers
3674218398_3554ebd582.jpg

Some 90ish(im guessing) ADS's i got from a friend(who got me started on Vinyl, etc. He also gave me some Monster Cables and the stands they are on.

My Brush
3673409677_87d6c8b8ba.jpg

Every Record Player-er should have at least one decent brush to brush off the records before and after playing. I have been pretty happy i guess with this one. It removes dust and a tiny bit of static. But i want to get one of those anti static Guns as well. Beware: when using this brush, if you have any OCD tendencies(as a lot of mac people do with there macs:p), it will unleash it.;)

I'm not a collector, really, but I have switched from buying CDs to buying vinyl. I mainly only buy albums on vinyl that I feel are particularly good candidates for the vinyl sound. Here are some pictures from ones I posted in the music collection thread.

CIMG2067.jpg

1. Radiohead - In Rainbows Discbox
(Sooo glad I bought this before they stopped selling them. Fantastic album to have on vinyl. Reckoner & Videotape will never sound so amazing elsewhere.)
2. Radiohead - I Might Be Wrong live Recordings
3. Beck - Modern Guilt (an album made for vinyl through and through)
4. Vampire Weekend
5. MGMT - Ocular Spectacular
6. Calexico - Carried to Dust (also prime vinyl material)
7. Ryan Adams - Rock N Roll
8. Ryan Adams - Cardinology (clear-red vinyl)
9. Ryan Adams - Easy Tiger (clear-orange vinyl)
10. Super Furry Animals - Hey Venus

I'm just starting out as well.

I have probably 20 vinyls, all older stuff.

What I covet most:

Radiohead discography
Frank Sinatra - In the Wee Small Hours
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue

Did you see that radiohead have released all of their singles albums on vinyl now? My bruv saw them at Record & Tape Traders all in cream colored sleeves with CD-sized album art on it. I think they were 33s, too, and cheap.

Looked like this:

You are so write on AJA. They mixed Newsted out of the entire album for a reason, they essentially hated him. Great bass player, though. And he fit in the band better than Trujilo does.

Would love to have all the old albums on vinyl, all the good ones that is, haha.
Yeah I know. It's pretty useless if you ask me, they only hurt their record.

I've got a fair amount. I sold 50% of my collection about 10 years ago and am ex pinched about 40-50 really nice limited editions... :(

I'll take some photos of the more interesting (to me) pieces later. For now:
Some Metallica:
Rarer bits: RTL on the original Music For Nations label
the original MOP gatefold 2x45
One gatefold 12"
Jump In The Fire 12" red vinyl

For the Steve Albini fan:

I still hate you and never date a chick who will pinch your vinyl.

I have maybe 300 records. Historically I've only been a sporadic purchaser of LPs: in high school, most of the records I bought at the time were not available on cassette at the time, and CDs were still kind of an exotic luxury back then. Over the past few years, I've switched to buying vinyl exclusively since many new titles come with free digital downloads of the album.

I don't think I have too many killer rarities in my LP collection: just a lot of old (and new) records I love to play. Maybe Tortoise's Rhythms, Resolutions & Clusters or some old Stereolab 7"s might be of most interest to the collectors, but I've got my old Joy Division 12"s, old Beatles and Pink Floyd and classical albums inherited from my parents, an original pressing of Radiohead's OK Computer, Smiths LPs that have been out of print for many years (though Rough Trade / Rhino are finally re-issuing them shortly), some gorgeous Red House Painters LPs that are long out of print and worth waaaay too much money on eBay.

I do try to keep a leash on the size of my collection; don't know what I'll do when it outgrows the bookshelf, and heaven help me when it's time to move. I'd much rather have quality over quantity.
