Is anyone aware of any campaign to get these global restrictions on buying music lifted? I want to start one but would be happy to join in if someone else has started.

It's one of the issues that is encouraging illegal downloads. Thousands of artists have fans in many countries - it's just crazy that in this day and age you can't legally buy certain tracks. Ultimately, if it's a legal purchase through iTunes, no matter who is buying the track, the revenue will eventually arrive with the appropriate rights owner. I realise it's not as simple as that due to the history of the music business - where a lot of artists use different companies to release songs in different territories.

Anyway, I could bore you all with this for ages - is there a campaign going on already?

Hi all,

I'm in the same situation. I want to buy a tv series for the US itunes but don't know how? I could wait until it comes to the UK itunes and then buy it, but i don't know if it ever will and even if it does when that would be. I'm sorry if this is basically running over the same thing again but i'am quite stuck so any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I do have another question though, if i create a US account and buy a UK gift card would that work, and would that render the card useless to add to my UK acount if it doesn't work?

Many thanks. :)

The problem is the payment issue, you can make up an address but it needs to match the card. I have a US address & Card but also have a UK address & card. I am going to test just switching my country & if i have to type all my address details in each time then so be it. However i have an open season pass of Prison Break which is now finished but won't close, iTunes says i have to wait. Also i know you CANT switch your country if you have credit. My wifes iTunes has XX dollars on it and it told me it can't do it whilst you have a balance so that answers your question about Gift Cards, you could use them but you'd need to use them all up before switching countries.

Just out of interest, which TV Series were you trying to get?

So the the only way i can get a US gift card is to travel to the US and buy one? If so i think i'll just hope and see if what i want comes to the UK itunes and if it doesn't so beit. If i go to the US any time soon it will pick a few up so i can use them. Would that work?

The TV series i wanted is 90210. But theres some much more stuff in general on the US itunes than the UK itunes, which is why i wanted a US account so i could have the best of both worlds so to speak.

Pretty much thats how you get a US gift card, however i do have a solution for you. One option is to open an amazon account if you don't already have one, they don't care how you pay. You could buy a gift card & have it delivered to my address in the US, i can get my mother in law to scratch off the code and email it to you. I had her do that for me a few months ago.

I tried to send yo a pm but it said you weren't setup to accept them. Let me know what you think.

Sounds like a great idea Thanks alot :)!! I'm tempted to wait alittle while to see if it does come to the UK store, which would save us both alot of hassle.

Cool, my email is my user at gmail.com
Send me an email if you want to get a card.

Although I do understand that certain songs cannot be downloaded because there are no rights for it in the country, I still think it is counterproductive to the music companies, because it just makes people resort to less legal alternatives.

There's a remix that I wanted to download from UK's iTunes and the single is available in Canada without the specific remix. The corporations wanna make money and I am willing to spend it, but they won't let me. Not very business-like...but how come it is possible for me to order it on vinyl from the UK? I am not allowed purchase a digital copy of it, but British record dealers will gladly accept my credit card and will sell me the same thing on a round vinyl disc. I don't get it.

AU Music for the US

I want an album only available in AU store. WTF! No one seems to have a clear way of doing this. Has anyone figured this out yet?

I live in the UK and managed to create a US account but where would I get the gift cards that are legit? I've heard some eBay horror stories...would Paypal work? I have a Paypal account but does the Paypal address have to be in the US? Would buying one of those Visa giftcards online also work on iTunes?

I bought my girlfriend here in Japan an American iTunes gift card (had my sister ship it to us here) since she wants some American music, and she hasn't set it up yet (I'll just give her my dad's American address) but after she does which should be no problem, once the money is out can the giftcard be re-credited with more money, or would she need to get another new giftcard?

Hi everybody.
I'm looking for a song that's exclusive from iTunes Store JP.
I don't want an itunes gift card because that's the only song i want (200 yen)
Can somebody who has a account there sell me just that song????
I hope someone can help me. =(

I Don't Get It

I've been reading this thread and there's something that I don't understand. I can go to Amazon.co.uk from the US, buy any CD they have listed for sale, and they'll ship it to me. On iTunes, if the same album is only listed in UK iTunes, I can't buy it as a download.

I would love to know the logic behind this. I have money in my hand that I want to give to Apple, and they refuse to take it. So I wind up spending the money elsewhere. Huh?

Sorry to bring up such an old thread but I find this absolutely annoying.
Why even let us VIEW the music if they don't allow us to download it. Makes no sense. They will just lose customers to Amazon or other MP3 websites for this.

It is good to bring up this topic again as it is ridiculous that not all countries are listed yet. I understand the rules of copyright for songs yet my sister in the UK could legally burn 7 CD's from a song listed in the UK iTunes library and send to me, so that I can play them quite legally here! So what is different from my downloading the same songs from the UK iTunes store??

We have two authorized Apple stores here, yet we are not listed! Why do they allow Apple products to be sold in countries that are not listed? Are we supposed to buy them just for decoration?

Well I live in Europe so Amazon doesn't work for me either-no music outside the continental USA.

It's not legal for her to do that - she's shipping copyrighted material outside of her country. Of course, no one is going to stop her, but it's not legal.

The issue is not Apple, or the Bands - the issue is the Record Labels (Sony, etc.) that distribute the music for the bands. They are the middlemen who control how, where, and when the music is sold, and they want to control it as much as possible to make as much money as possible. Some of them are smart enough to do world-wide releases, but others want special rights or fees to distribute in specific countries. To many of these companies, the ability to download a song is SCARY to them, because it can then be copied onto more than one iPod, or computer - unlike a CD, which you would have to pay for more than one copy of. (They want to make it illegal to make a copy of a CD, even for your own personal use.)

Don't blame Apple - blame the record labels that sell the music. They are the ones holding the music back from Apple.

How do i buy that japan iTMS card through itunes without a japanese account?

and when i go to start making a new itunes account i get to the credit card spot, then click home like you said and dont get anything but back to the first page of making my account again once i reclick the button that says
itunes カードを使う (use itunes card)
which im assuming is the "redeem" selection you were telling us to do in your post..

im fairly sure you have to have an itunes account in the country you are trying to purchase from.. id love to be able to buy electronic music from europe, but since my itunes account is in the US, I can't.. :(

You can get vouchers from eBay, or other websites... I'm not in US either, but that's how can get by..

All my purchases even when i used Apple music, iCloud storage etc, are charged via U.S credit.

Otherwise, know a friend in the U.S who can send then to you cheap :D

True, it's a pain login in & out to access the different regions. I found by changing the country became a hassle when I had my credit card entered in my NZ account as if I selected the US account it checked my card and told me it couldn't be used due it not being a US one.

All Account info is only relative to AppleID, not to country (iTunes store) being viewed.
