Seriously, this device is meant to have a constant available connection. I don't see how those who purchased the wifi and don't tether or use some mobile hotspot can feel 100% sure they made the right decision.

It's damn near hard for me to leave the room without it, let alone confine myself to only home usage.

I don't know how you guys do it.

Starting to think I need to enroll myself in IA.

(I wrote this while walking down the street, btw.)

I don't feel cheated at all. It depends on how you use your device.

I don't need to be "online" 100% of the time. I've had mine since it launched and haven't once wished for 3G.

very much like my laptop and netbook which have never had 3g connections, it works quite well. the 3g connection could come in handy every once in a while (I havent had that situation come up yet, but I also dont travel) but for the cost, if there was something I needed desperately I would just look it up on my phone.

I dont see the ipad being as portable as some of you I guess. I saw a guy walking around the mall with it, he reeked of douchebag. His kid was playing in the play area while he was sitting there mindlessly swiping away listening to music while his kid was being a miniDB off by himself. I use it at home, I take it to work, I would take it to panera or a coffee shop or whatever but I just dont know where people are going that wifi is not available that I would want to bring my ipad anyway. I would probably have gotten 3g if I was at my old job and traveled a lot. Now I am always pretty close to home.

I have a life outside of my iPad. Many people do.

I suggest you try it.

There is another thread on this titled along the word "Do you regret getting a WiFI iPad."

Considering what the iPad device really can do while you are mobile, if you feel "cheated" not having constant connectivity, you have some serious issues with internet addiction.

Because everything else....watching a video (non-streaming), listening to music, viewing pictures, reading an ebook, playing a game, even GPS (assuming you aren't out in the boonies away from ANY wifi signals at all)...all of these other functions work fine without connectivity.

So I guess I don't see the problem. Constant connectivity is sure as heck convenient but I've lived fine without it thus far in my life....as an AT&T user you sort of have to get used to connectivity issues in the first place (Ouch!).

I use the Internet, email, and cloud computing quite a bit and I would feel cheated if I didn't have verizon connection with me. Games & videos are there when I have finished everything else.

I have no interest in tethering or jailbreaking. In fact, I have no interest in owning an iPhone. I waited for the 3G because even though 90% of the time I might use it I have a wifi connection (home and work), I wanted the option of connecting via 3G when I travel or otherwise not in range of a usable wifi connection. Since 3G is a $15 no-contract connection, there's no downside. Additionally, I wanted the option of GPS in the device as well.

Nope, in the interest of maximum potential, no wifi-only iPad for me. Maximum flexibility and for only $130. It seemed like a no-brainer at the time, and my experience since I've had it has confirmed that expectation.

I don't feel cheated at all. iPad use will vary with people's lifestyle. I don't have my iPad with me all the time. I use it in the morning to check my email, look up news etc. That's only if I don't feel like getting up and if do, I'm on my iMac. I do take it to work where wifi is available. On the weekends, I'm out cycling or running for 3 to 4 hours both days and I go home eat, rest and maybe I'll use iPad. And if I go out with friends, I just don't take with me, instead I have my iPhone...So far wifi is working for me, we'll see though, things change all the time.

I tether w/ my iPhone, but not constantly. It still maintains its functionality without wifi, though it may only lose 5% of its cool without it. It tears ass with wifi, which is nice, however it's not needed much of the time.

I mostly use it for Goodreader, Comic Zeal, and videos, which don't need the internets at all :)

"Cheated" implies that you were misled about your purchase.

2nded :D

unneeded and pointless reply. Just being negative for the sake of being negative.

why is this forum so full of this attitude?

You suggest that the OP didn't need to start the thread. If you followed your own advice, you didn't need to reply to this thread.

Nope. If I want my iPad always connected, I will either sign up for one of those Verizon/Sprint services or just get the 3G iPad.

It could also mean one underestimated their usage of the device, thus inviting a feeling of buyer's remorse to creep in.

There have been countless wifi owners who have returned for the 3G because of just this.

Still, there are others who'll just make do.

So you 'cheated' yourself?

Sorry, still feel it's an unnecessary inflammatory way of phrasing it, you're making it sound like someone did something to you, i.e., cheated you out of something.

My intention was purely reflexive, in a sense that one cheated one's self by not purchasing the 3G. Apple didn't cheat anyone as they laid everything out on the table, literally, with iPad demos.

I understand what you're saying though.

You cheated thousands of 3G pre-orderers by getting the "experience"early. I ordered my iPad 3G the minute Pre-orders opened and endured only being able to check them out at best buy for the month the wi-fi's were out. Unlike some people I thought about my use and knew it was best to order and wait for the 3G rather than complain about the shortcomings of the earlier release. I hated knowing during that month that there were people that would eventually come in here and whine about stuff like this. You got that wi-fi a month earlier than those of us that planned so deal with the consequences.

I spend the majority of my day from September to the end of April on campus and at home. Both have wifi. I was even able to get a wifi connection at work but would not carry my iPad with me anyways so it won't matter. I still have a few more years of school so no point in getting 3G. Many games, ebooks, video stored on the device does not need a connection. This is what I will be using on the train for my daily commute.
