The reviews thus far seems to query why HTC tinkered with an amazing product.

The One was fantastic, but the Max apparently isn't as good. I certainly don't think it makes sense.

Guessing it's due to the form faction and having a large size but due to the size and overall weight maybe it doesn't make sense. I think in terms of comp it isn't that close to the note 3 and thats what the reviewers are comparing it to.

There are elements to the Max that I really like. They moved the power/wake button to the right side and added an SD card slot. Apparently from reviews the front speakers are even louder than the original One.

Simple question must be answered when considering the Max. Can you live with such a large and heavy phone? The thing is a tank. If your answer to that question is 'yes' then I think you should maybe get it.

I wish the One had the power button on the side too.

The One with the Max's power button and SD card slot would have been killer. Hopefully we'll see something like that from HTC in 2014.

I don't get why they got rid of OIS though with the camera. Why would they make a newer product less advanced?

Note 3 is already a big device. The Max is even bigger.. but without any special features that utilizes that screen or set it apart from the HTC One.

No. Nothing special about it at all. There are better phones in that size. All it is is a bigger HTC one. No added software features and it uses the exact same hardware. It could have been better but HTC got lazy.

Why does everyone care so much about the Max not having any added features? I can't think of any phone that's a larger version of another that has added features. The Note doesn't count, it's a separate line from the S series. I liked the HTC One a lot and I think the Max is awesome.

The Note does count...it is a larger version of the Galaxy S4 only with added functionality added to enhance using the larger screen.

They should have just made it bigger and a tablet. Probably would have gotten some attention.

The Note is a different phone line though, it is NOT an S4. HTC never claimed the Max added anything new, its just a One for people who want a larger screen. Just like the iPad mini is an iPad with a smaller screen. The Max doesn't need anything added to it, its not supposed to be a phablet.

Just like the Max is pretty identical to the One...the Note3 and S4 are pretty identical. The Note just adds enhancements to use that large screen. The Max just by the sheer size and weight is by definition a phablet.

Samsung intended them to be different devices. If not, the Note line would just be called the Galaxy S3/4 Max or Mega or Ultra etc...its a completely different line. The Max is not supposed to be different or add anything new, its just a larger One. Get over it people.

He's right. The Note is a different line from the Galaxy S4. The Note 3 and GS4 may share many similarities, but the Note is a line of it's own. That's why you have the GS4, GS4 mini, and the GS4 Active, while the Note line has the Note 3, Note 8, and Note 10.1.

I dont disagree but what would you want? The minute HTC added a stylus and new software to take advantage of it, everyone would start crying about how they are copying Samsung

Maybe...but they should have something else besides size that enhances the product features. The One is a great phone.......so expectations were the phablet version would add features. But it does not....then add it the fact that it is quite heavy......the design that made the One feel premium...works against it at the larger size.

Yeah it makes no sense that they just made it bigger. Doesn't look like they bothered much.

It makes perfect sense for those like me who really like the One but wish it had a larger display. Samsung actually made TWO larger S4s and did nothing but make them larger. The Galaxy Mega 5.8 and 6.3 are just larger versions of the Galaxy S4 but Samsung gimped them with horribly outdated internals and bad quality displays. I give HTC a ton of credit for keeping the same internals and giving the Max an awesome display. Again, what do you expect HTC to do with the Max? What did you want them to add? The iPad mini and iPads are just larger iPhones with zero added functionality...
