Anybody gonna buy no matter what if case redesigned?

I'm still rockin my 2008 MP pretty strong and don't really feel the need to upgrade. However, if I see a whole new case redesign I may just take the leap for this sole reason alone. I mean, I'm sure it's gonna be powerful but a new body? Mmmmm
 
Not sure why the look of a box that sits under my desk would have an effect on my spending money.

Perhaps that only thing that a redesign could bring is a change in weight (boy is the current thing heavy).

Yeah, of course but the Mac Pros are almost always guaranteed to be a powerhouse. I'm just saying that a long over due case redesign would definitely put me over the top.

Not sure why. It's a case. Sure, if it's a new case that's nice, but it doesn't make any difference in my work flow.
 
I'd love a design with more HD bays and TB.
Sadly though, it's likely I'll have to wait a year or two for the 2nd generation, as at over £2000 I really can't afford to buy a new Mac Pro now!
Whatever happened to £1500?
That said, if it was really super fantastic I'd probably find a way to scrape the cash together.
The other Killer about getting a new Mac Pro though is compatibility.
I can't run everything I need on Lion yet, so OSX 10.68 is still a must for me and may be another reason why I end up staying with my 2009 8 core Mac Pro.
I wish (on their pro Macs at least) Apple would give you a little backwards compatibility - If I could run 10.6 on a brand new Mac Pro, it'd be one more obstacle removed and one more reason for me to make the purchase.
 
I'm buying one regardless of case design, so long as Apple doesn't do something stupid like remove the 5.25" bays.

It doesn't look like backwards compatibility is on the agenda anymore; the last time I can remember was the final model of Power Mac G4, which included compatibility with OS 9 when all the consumer machines were OS X-only.
 
The actual case means nothing to me as far as looks go. I'm more interested in the hardware itself. I'm still leaning towards building a windows workstation at this point, but gonna hold out to see what Apple does first.

Are you sure? What if - for example - the new case allows for a MacBook (Pro) to dock directly and keep data on both devices in sync in real time! So you can seamlessly continue your work when going on the road? Or it may allow to add CPU modules easily when you need more computing power? Or sport new interfaces which allow for new/other external devices to be added?

Not saying it will happen, but a new case can actually imply possible changes to anyone's workflow...

Given Apple's recent track record you may even have problems to run Lion properly on that machine if it gets deliverd with 10.8 ML from day one...
 
The only time I see my 2008 Mac Pro is when I sit down at my desk. OK, I like the fact that it is attractive, but that's not why I bought it.

Change it or not, I don't care. I'll trust that whatever Apple comes up with will work for me.

My ideal macpro redesign:

1) no super drives
2) six hot swappable 2.5inch sata3 drive slots (all vertical or maybe horizontally in pairs) accessible from the front of the machine (xserve-style)
3) two onboard thunderbolt port (with integrated graphics...)
4) i think usb3 is a given at this point
5) a discrete gpu that doesn't suck
 
I don't mind if it looks exactly the same but I welcome a new redesign. I would prefer easier access to everything inside I've had such a nightmare with my 3,1 and upgrading certain parts.

I don't know if the newer models are the same?. Also dust managment. I can't believe how much dust builds up and the room it's situated in isn't even dusty.

But I can't see it changing much on the outside though I personally think it still looks fresh and modern.

If they did one in a black tungsten effect... good god. :D

Sure, but that's a feature, not just a case redesign.
 
I'll buy one even if it comes as a cheese grater in a cardboard box. Wait a second, it does. :D
 
I wouldnt mind if it was the same case, Its a workstation so I am not interested in the vanity of it... that being said if it was rackmountable I would be pretty damn excited.
 
Anyone who's buying a Mac Pro for the case design doesn't need a Mac Pro.

iMacs are that way ->
 
I'll buy it if it's a beige box. I really don't care. I can always cut it up and make it awesome myself.
 
I'm buying either way.

For what it's worth, although Apple have used the current design for years, it still looks amazing. It doesn't seem...necessary to change it.
 
i'll buy it on day one if it supports my two thunderbolt displays (for better or worse i own two of 'em) i may still buy it even if it doesn't, though would have the conundrum of selling the displays.... form factor is fairly irrelevant as long as i get my beefy gpu.
 
The case makes no difference to me for the first one since it's replacing a desktop machine (under desk).

However, I've put my next server purchase on hold; if a Mac Pro is available with a cleanly rack-mountable case, I'm probably going to buy one instead of the built-from-off-the-shelf parts server I was planning to buy.
 
I couldn't care less how a computer LOOKS. my workstation is a generic looking metal box.

My 6500 Dollar GamePC gaming rig is a black metal box with a handle on it that says " GAMEPC " in a small logo on the front.

My G5s are just a tower, for their time they were CRAZY powerful.

Let me say this.

My work workstation is an amazing machine, dual xenons, 128gb of ram, 4x Quadros, ect ect ect I won't list it. But its an AMAZING machine.

My GAMEPC gaming rig looks cool but its not pretty. It has an OCed to 4.8gzh i7 ( I could go to 5zh no problem ). Its got liquid cooling, dual 7970s, a 1600 watt PSU, an SSD with two 1TBs ect ect ect.

They both perform so well, and do their job so well, so did the G5.

If I wanted a sissy all show and no go computer. I'd stick with an iMac, but my newer ( its 8 months old ) iMac is getting donated to my GF's sister. She could use it when she starts college.

I'm so happy I will finally have a mac that can compare to my GAMEPC, it'll be going on the same desk, right next to it.

So no, as long as its everything everyone hoping it is. I will be purchasing it. Prob option it out to 5 or 6K
