anybody knows why Otterbox abandoned iPad Mini 6 and refused to make a Defender case for it?

It's a new device - it may be that they just haven't made one yet. I certainly wouldn't jump to the conclusion you made at this point. You can try to ask them directly -

I did... they said "no"... :(

I have been using Otterbox for 10+ years and cases always come out at the same time as the phones. This is one of the rare few times in 10 years that they have nothing for a new iPad. :(

ah, OK. I agree on their quality, I have their Defender and other cases myself - well made & sturdy.

We can but guess. Abandon however implies that they had a plan for a product in the first place which is, yet again, speculation.

Too bad, really. I had put an Otterbox Defender on a Nexus 7 for map use in the field - worked quite nicely. I could have seen the same with my 5G Mini 6 with GPS.

I don't have my original inquiry, but essentially I emailed their CS and asked if they could make a clear case for the new mini. Here is their reply:

Thank you for reaching out to Customer Service! We do not currently offer a case for that specific device. We are so sorry for the inconvenience! We agree, an awesome device deserves awesome protection, and we really appreciate your inquiry. We will keep it in mind when producing our products, but we can not make any promises. We guarantee that whatever case we produce will make you fall in love! If you’d like to stay on top of our latest releases, we’d encourage you to sign up for our email newsletter. Additionally, feel free to follow us on social media to see our newest adventures. We appreciate your input!

So... not a "no." But not a "yes" either.

It is too thick anyway, buy a thin case.

The Defenders are excellent cases for devices that are used in rougher environments. I've used them with small tablets that I took into the field for mapping purposes (why I'd again consider one for my 5G Mini 6). If you have the need, they're an excellent fit where a thin case won't work.

Glad that it works fine for me
I never tried case of this brand, too thick for me and I live in city.
