Anybody regret getting rid of the iPhone?

Hi, I've been using an iPhone 3G for about 18 months now and I'm considering swapping it for a blackberry curve instead of a 3GS...

main reasons being I'm bored of the iPhone now and tbh I need the function of bb messenger, was just wondering if anybody has got rid of their iPhone and then regretted doing so?
 
When my 3G went away for repair I went back to a Nokia 6280. To be totally fair it was one of the worst experiences of my life. Failing my driving test was the nearest thing to the pain.

Just my 2 cents mind...
 
In the days before the iPhone 3G announcement was made I decided to cash in and sell my 2G on eBay and I used a temporary bar phone until I got the 3G. Big mistake, as I found the announcement was an announcement and not a release. I had to use a $25 cell phone for a month.

To make things worse when the 3G came out there was not an unlock available for some time and I was going to be studying abroad in England, so in the end I gave in and bought a 2G on eBay to replace the crappy phone I had been using. I should have just stuck with my 2G and avoided all the trouble. But I was greedy and wanted to cash in. :p

As of right now I'm tempted by devices like the Palm Pre and the HTC Hero, but not enough to drop AT&T and switch yet.
 
There are a few threads that cover this, people have switched and regretted it. Though I'm sure some have switched and found the BB more suitable for their business needs.


Personally I have used the Pre quite heavily and BB Storm/Curve and IMO neither of them match the experience I have on my Iphone.

BB has some advantages for business purposes, but I don't need those advantages.

Iphone 3GS is the best phone out IMO.

The Palm Pre IMO is junk. The OS is nice, but the hardware is pathetic. I was VERY dissapointed in my time using the Palm Pre. The hype that it got led me to believe I was going to be holding something special, trust me, it ain't special at all. Again pretty cool OS if not a little unintuitive, but the hardware just sucks.

These are MY opinions based on what I have used, don't flame me because I don't like a phone you may own.
 
I sold my iPhone 2G and went back to a cheap Nokia flip phone. Occasionally I'll go to lookup a restaurant or something and miss the iPhone, but when I get my bill without the data plan it is all better. The 2G data was really slow, and I was too cheap to upgrade and pay more for the data plan when I didn't want a data plan at all anyway. I never used it that much anyway I guess.
 
I've had a lot of phones (30+) and the iphone is the only one I have kept and upgraded, having had a 2G, 3G and now 3GS, I did sell one and get a Nokia N96 when it was released, I went back to an iphone after 2 weeks, then not so long ago I got a E71, but kept my iphone just in case, the E71 lasted 1 week.

I've contemplated getting rid of my iPhone for this reason, Data Plan. for the past several years I was commuting 90 miles daily(one way) to the bay area for work, and I was required to drive all over the bay, so GPS, Instant Emails, Internet was required. But recently I left my job for one in my home town just a couple of miles from my house, and now I dont feel the need to want to pay $30 a month for data.

i've thought about getting a regular phone and just use my iPod Touch instead of my 3GS (i was disappointed no camera, but thats over with) but I'm afraid that if I do sell it, I might miss it.

I still have my corporate discount on my account, so if I continue to use my iPhone I will be paying about $75-$80 a month, if I get just a regular phone I can be paying around $32 a month (voice) + $5 for text.

That difference would be enough to make up my mind. I got $250 for my 2G the first day on Craigslist; with that you could easily buy an iPod Touch and still have all of teh apps and everything else except the camera and phone.
 
I use a BB Curve as my work phone and an iPhone for personal. They are very different devices. The Curve is great for email and texting and IMing are fine as well. Awful if you do anything else. The iPhone while not as strong in email is a far superior device for the non-business user.

With all of that, let me say this.

If my company would let me I would use my iPhone for work in a heart beat. It is that much better.
 
My experience went as such:

Just like you, I was bored with iPhone OS. The Blackberry Bold looked amazing. I lost my mind for a brief time and found somebody on Craigslist who was looking to trade an iPhone for a Bold. I found one. Turns out he wanted a 16GB 3G. All I had was my shiny new 3GS. "Oh well" I said. "I'm sick of the iPhone" I said.

I used the Bold for not even three days before I was digging my old first gen out of my closet. My girlfriend saw me suffering and gave me her 3G and used the Bold. The speeds of the 3G were killing me. I used my girlfriend's early upgrade and paid $399 for my current 32GB. I gave the 3G back to my girlfriend. I resumed being happy.

What are you looking for? A BB is not an iPhone. If you are only interested in email, then yes the BB is for you. If you like downloading and installing and playing with allot of different apps, then the BB is not for you. I handled BB everyday, Bolds, Curves etc. I carry one for work. But it stays in my suit pocket until needed. At home I never look at it.

Unless you have alot of friends with BBs, I don't see how BB messenger would be of much use to you.

went from a curve to iphone 3g to a bold.. regreted it and couldnt wait for the 3gs to come out.. almost bought a 3g to hold me over until 3gs came out. iphone is the phone for me.
 
sorry like i said before. i kept both my devices the curve and now iphone. curve using the BIS is kick ass for me. need my emails asafp!! but overall fun factor the iphone. spent about $80 in games & thx to jailbreak quite a few much needed utility apps. so it all works out.
 
I also thought the grass was greener. I had the first iphone then when the 3g came out I bought my wife and I both 16g 3g iphones. After about 6 months I decided I wanted to sell our iphones and get us both BB Storms(ridiculous i know) so I called my buddy up and sold him my mint condition black 16g 3g and all accessories for 200 (also ridiculous) and went to Verizon and bought 2 storms. It was the worst 12 hrs ever. Thank heavens I didn't sell my wife's. Next day as soon as we woke up we returned the storms and ported our numbers to at&t and I shelled out 499 for a new iphone(8g). I have a phone disorder and am always looking for the next best thing and as of now the iphone is the best out there as far as its capabilities. I will not make that mistake again. Now my wife and I both have 3GS's and couldn't be happier.
 
I switched from the original 2G iphone to the Blackberry Bold. A friend of mine had the 8350i from Nextel and let me play with it....So when an unfortunate accident claimed the life of my iphone, I went to the ATT store to get the 3G...but picked up the bold and loved it.

I only lasted a few months.

BBM was awesome, but everything else was just "eh..."

Having an iPhone keeps me from wanting a laptop....with the Bold, I felt like I was only using it as a phone and to check e-mail. Internet browsing with that stupid trackball sucked. Games were horrible. Their AppWorld is small....and expensive...I MISSED the iPhone....bigtime.

So when the 3GS came out...I came back to the light and haven't regretted it for a second.

Sure, that Bold's battery would go 4-5 days without needing a charge. (Because I wasn't using it)

Sure, the Bold's speakers blew away my 2G iphone's speakers (not as big of an issue with the 3GS now)


The blackberry is a mobile phone with e-mail and basic web browsing.

The iPhone is a mobile "device" with a phone on it.



You watch. There's a lot of speculation about Apple's incoming server farm in NC. My theory is that it's going to be to support a service like Blackberry's BIS/BES. Store all your information on the servers. Rather than your iPhone doing the work and checking e-mail accounts, the servers do it and send you one stream of data for all your e-mail accounts AND to better support their push notification service.
 
Of course anyone would regret it if s/he replaces an iPhone with any cell phone or a smartphone.

However, I'd like to throw in an iPod Touch (2G or 3G) into the equation:

Blackberry + iPod Touch
Palm Pre + iPod Touch　　　　　　　　　vs.　　　　　　　iPhone
Android + iPod Touch

Besides of the inconvenience of carrying two devices instead of one, would any combination of a smartphone + iPod Touch give you a better over all experience or not?
 
i actually can't wait to get rid of my iphone. just tried a friends palm pre out the other day and i was amazed. waiting for it to become available on the carrier i'm currently in a contract with so i can finally sell off this overrated toy :mad:
 
Went from iPhone to BB Curve 8900, haven't regretted it for a second. The BB is a powerhouse - fast, customizable, capable of multitasking, full of options. iPhone was a nice toy, but can't stand up next to a bb as an actual work phone.

I did not regret selling my 3G all I really missed was playing some games nothing more. I am aging concidering selling my 32GB 3GS in January when my AT&T contract is up and am eligible for an upgrade. I'm concidering the TP2. I really liked (and miss) the Pre but hated Sprint because of service in my area.

Here's what I did.

1. Went out and bought a cheap go-phone on AT&T
2. Called AT&T and canceled my iPhone contract with them
3. Put my go-phone SIM into my iPhone
4. Called AT&T and asked them to block all data
5. Purchased the Unlimited Text package

Now I have a go-phone iPhone 3G and it makes me very happy. I too was getting sick of paying $100 per month for services I just wasn't using, but I loved the iPhone as an advanced iPod touch. So these steps really DO work. Also, they ported my old number to the go-phone when I canceled my iPhone contract.

So a summary. I have an iPhone that I use as pay-as-you-go with absolutely no access to data (unless I have wifi). Works great!
