Anybody succeed in making a Hackintosh out of X1E 4K yet?

I don't think it will be easy (or possible), largely due to the fact that X1E is running a nvidia gpu and apple only uses amd.
Why not just run macos in a vm? That's fairly easy, I did it myself for a time, though after reinstalling windows, I decided to stick solely with windows and didn't install macOS in a VM. For me, the only major feature I'm missing out on is iMessage and living without it for 4 months, I've adapted my workflow so its less of an issue
Didn't you post that you've moved on from macos? You've been running windows on various laptops for the past 6 months (longer?), and didn't you build yourself a desktop. I'd just stick within windows, but that's me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I know that there is no support for nvidia. However, can we have a X1E Hackintosh running iGPU?
How is your experience running macos in a vm? From some posts, it seems to be very slow. If the performance is like the rMBP 2014 15", I would be happy.
Only four small screws remain on my MBP 2010 17". It has crazy fan and battery issues. It will be nonfunctional sooner or later. However, I would prefer to keep a machine with all the stuffs I have over the years around. I case I need to make a Keynote presentation again. Am I correct that if I need to make a Hackintosh, I need a *real* Mac to get the installation file?
Because the integrated gpu is supported but not the discrete gpu.
Slow enough to be a pain, there's really no optimizations so it runs slow, but at least it runs. Based on later comments, you only need access to macOS to retrieve your keynote presentations so performance shouldn't be a primary concern.
No, you're incorrect. Just export your keynotes to powerpoint and cut the cord.
Why not just buy a Macbook, its fanless and will run the apps you need
Without optimization, how is the speed compared with previous MBP models like the 2014 rMBP 15"?
I cannot stand the butterfly keyboard. Also it is very slow. I tested it when it came out.
I didn't run any benchmarks, it was more about a proof in concept, i.e., could I do it.
Get a mac mini, and a regular keyboard. You'll have access to your data and you can get a windows laptop for your other needs
Stupid question probably, but why not post a WTB thread in the marketplace for a 2014 15" rMBP then?
I don't think that is quite right. I had the battery replaced including the top care last year in my 2012 rmbp
I think buying a used 2014 or a 2015 model is good advise
This guy literally asks a dozen questions a week, and whenever someone suggests something he shuts their idea down. He will then get a laptop, have unreasonably high expecations, find a small quirk with it which isn't even a problem, and return it. Then the cycle will repeat itself.
I don't mind it as it's entertaining, and I think he means well. Everytime I come on here I think to myself," I wonder what Hajime is asking today."

Finding a laptop in 2019 like the rmbp 2014 is not unreasonably high expectations.
By the way, Lenovo acknowledged that the unit is defective and if you don’t see it as a problem for returning a defective unit, that is fine with me.
Its quite easy to find a 2014 laptop, just go to eBay.
If you're looking for a laptop that runs a high end GPU, uses a 45w TDP processor, in a thin design that runs cool and quiet, then yes you have unreasonably high expectations.
No matter how you slice it, the improvements to modern day CPUs and GPUs means both are running a lot hotter then older designs. Couple that with a thin enclosure and you need fans to cool the laptop.
You have a choice, as mentioned multiple times, get a laptop that is passively cooled, or expect to have a laptop that exhibits some level of noise and fans. You've mentioned multiple times that you're building a desktop so a passively cooled laptop should be more then enough for your mobile needs. Given how you want to retain access to your Mac Data, and Mac applications, buying a 2014 MBP is a great idea as well
I built a desktop already. It has 9900K and 2080Ti. Very quiet. Only noise when I turned on the machine for the first few seconds. For laptop, I would prefer 14-15.x", 4K. If I recall correctly, after 1.19 update, you mentioned that your X1E is quiet most of the time?
I am a bit afraid of eBay. Always buy the latest models when they come out.
Why do you really need that powerful of a laptop then? Dude, you already have a super powerful computer. Why not go for portability, battery life, and quality over performance in a laptop?
I don't need a very powerful laptop. Just a sufficiently good one. As I work in the library often, I want a laptop that is quiet (for myself and others sake) but also can do some CUDA programming work (just for prototyping). For long term simulations, I just use the desktop at home. Yes, portability (no more than 2kg), battery life (6+ hours) with 4K screen are desirable criteria. If a laptop with RTX GPU and the latest CPU fits these criteria, why not get the latest components?
The fans do go on, probably more then you would want but I think they're quiet. Of course I wasn't bothered by the fans in pre 1.19 bios either.
On a side note, I was bothered by the fans with the Razer, you had mentioned that machine as an option. Also you just posted that you want 4k, and the 17" flavor is 1080p only.
In second thought given your penchant for returning things, ebay may not be a great option (I'm not being critical, but you have returned a number of laptops). You're buying a used machine, and odds are that it won't be perfect or least to the high expectation you may have

What do you think of the new Razer Blade 15"? They have 4K model but it seems to be 4K OLED. I think I read that OLED sucks a lot of battery power but there is another saying that Samsung is the supplier of the LCD of this laptop and Samsung claimed that such issue is fixed already.
One possible issue is that we don't know how good they are in case the laptop needs repairing.
As I stated, the fans really bothered me on the razer, and if that was case for my usage, I'm pretty sure you'd be very disappointed. Battery life was the worst compared to the laptops I was comparing. The OLED option is a new, I'm unsure if that was released yet - I've not followed razer news too much.
Btw, I just noticed my fans running while I was watching a video - just to let you know. As that is super important to you.
There isn’t a laptop on the market that has all of those. As soon as you put in a 8750/9750H or RTX card in a notebook, there will be fan noise.
And I work in libraries sometimes too. Nobody really cares about laptop fan noise.
I think they improved the cooling system of the new Razer 15?
If I recall correctly, my X1E had fan noise when I connected it to a 4K TV and watched 4K videos. It was quieter when it was on its own.
Go for it then, I love the design of the Razer

But we don't know if their services are good or not in case the laptop needs repairing. Kind of difficult to spend 4K on a laptop not knowing the company well. At least I know Lenovo's services are excellent. Too bad they got poor rating in services this year. I think Razer is #2 just behind Apple.
