But we don't know if their services are good or not in case the laptop needs repairing. Kind of difficult to spend 4K on a laptop not knowing the company well.

Just see this guide to run a hackintosh It appears to be something not for the faint of heart however. I watched the video, and it will create a lot of work. This should work witht the X1E, however, I would install a second M.2 SSD, so that you do all of your work on the a completely separate SSD.

This will not work. Nobody has successfully run Windows 10 on Linux using qemu+kvm+vfio with dGPU passthrough on any laptop using Optimus using a Pascal+ NVIDIA card (GTX and RTX). The NVIDIA drivers will install on Windows, but fail to load with an error 43 because there's something it does not expect about the video layout (this is Optimus getting in the way). I tried on my P72, to no avail, confirmed by others that tried, to no avail.
However this should work with an eGPU (and of course a desktop computer with a desktop NVIDIA GPU).
