is there anyone here that has played with the 2.2.? Personally, I will wait for two reasons.

1. no jail break yet, so i will lose a lot of my apps.
2. I always let other people play with the new stuff to see if there are any problems. I have been burned to many times by updating software and finding out the previous version was better.

So, along those lines. Any major problems with 2.2 or any major fixes? Is it great or just ok?

I did the 2.2 update; first I did the restore, 2.2 began downloading at the same time; backup, restore, iPhone activated, 2.2 installed, everything went to factory settings, NO evidence of previous JB, such as no JB apps or JB installer, no change to 3G iPhone, took about 20 minutes total. Waiting to JB when iPhone Dev Team gives the OK, to JB with 2.2. Screenshot (notice the Carrier Change from AT&T to APPLE via Caption Crunch which still works):

So the unlock does not have to do with the firmware? Don't I need my phone to be jailbroken for it to be unlocked? And yes, I would like to keep the unlock.

So I know there have been lots of replies already, and I've read them all, but nowhere (correct me if I'm wrong, because it's highly probable that I am) have I seen a direct answer. I have a jailbroken, but not unlocked, iPhone 3G, and I want to know if it's safe to upgrade to 2.2 to 2.1. I know this will erase my JB until the dev team can work one out for 2.2, but I'm alright with that.
Should I factory restore first to get rid of the JB and then after upgrading restore the backup, or will it be fine to just go ahead and upgrade. Thanks for your help!

Go ahead and restore first, the 2.2 update will automatically download, and once the restore is done, 2.2 will install, then you're done. So, YES, go with it: Should I factory restore first to get rid of the JB and then after upgrading restore the backup=YES, or will it be fine to just go ahead and upgrade=YES.
