I gave my 10.5 Pro to my dad to replace his aging (8 years old) Mini and have been using my M1 MacBook for a few weeks but don’t think I can do it long term…miss the iPad too much.

I don’t have a TV and watch pretty much everything on mobile devices. I know a $1k tablet to watch movies/shows on is pretty overkill but I was planning on an OLED anyway and it’s just me most of the time viewing.

Anyway, anyone else doing this? Am I crazy? I wish the 11” was getting the same display overhaul and I’m not sure if 12.9 is going to be too unwieldy but the viewing experience sounds too good to pass up on when the difference in price isn’t that much.

My aunt bought the 12.9 just to watch K-Dramas on Viki. I buy mine for comics. ???

I buy mine primarily to read comics, but seeing as I spend a few hours a day everyday doing that, it’s well worth the money. Also stream tv, movies, and YouTube pretty regularly. That’s “pro” usage to me, and excited about the M1 because of the screen, and because I’m finally getting a 1TB model, which I’ve been coveting for several years, and which will take away the urge to update again anytime soon.

I have an iPad Pro 11 2018. I use it mostly for email, web, etc., as a Roon controller, and for some media consumption (video). I upgraded to the 12.9 with Magic Keyboard for the same use. It's overkill but I enjoy having it.

93% of people buying this device only watch videos and browse internet the VAST majority of time. If you can afford it, don’t sweat it.

I mostly have consumptive use cases myself but occasionally branch out into the Apple Pencil, Lumafusion, and some light photo editing for exceptional work tasks folks ask me to do.

But the screen is what makes an iPad. I couldn’t convince myself to lose the 120hz display. Add the better speakers, new screan tech, and M1 and it’s totally worth the upgrade to me.

With iPad being great for content consumption since day one there will always be those who buy it just as a nerdy 4:3 tv.

I upgraded from my 2017 10.5” Pro to a new 2020 12.9” at a nice Costco discount for just such things as you’re talking about. If the reviews say that the new XDR screen is noticeably better for text, then I’ll return the 2020 unopened and get a 2021. Otherwise, I think the 2020 will do nicely, and I don’t mind saving $250.

And I hope those getting the new 2021 find it to be all they wanted.

I got it for media consumption mostly. Movies, TV, anime, music, web browsing, photo editing as my hobby, creative writing, etc. It’s going to be well worth it to me. Always has been with every other iPad I’ve ever owned. I have a Samsung 4K TV that’s about 3 years old or so and I just like watching content on an iPad more. The XDR display is going to be awesome, and there’s just something inherently personal about watching content on an iPad. I love it!

Heck people even buy a highly spec’ced MacBook Pro north of $2500 to do the same. So that’s ok as long as you’re happy with it.

Yeah I specifically bought it for media consumption (books, comics internet, YouTube) as it’s what I mainly do on the iPad, along with some light document /photo editing. I know a lot of people would ask why you would spend so much money on something for these kind of tasks but I’m a firm believer of buying well for your high use tasks. £/time spent works out well for me.

With a $2000 budget, I would just buy a 65" OLED TV.
I want it big, babe!!!!!

(In reality, I just bought 1 normal 65" LED TV, less astounding contrast and black level, but heck, it's just 650$, can't blame anyhow)

Call me stupid but I bought the new M1 12.9 iPad with 2 To of storage to mainly watch Netflix and read books on it... I hope for a big WWDC annoucement tho to make it my main "computer" at some points in the futur.

A little bit of everything. I'm keeping my 2018 11' pro to see if I'll still be using it, the 2TB 12.9 will have some comic reading and video watching, but I going to try it live-streaming from my YouTube channel and zoom, stream yards

I mostly end up using my devices in a ways or fashion other than what I've figured I'm buying them for.
However I do plan to use it as my AiO device for both leisure and some productivity and perhaps bit of creativity thrown in.
Now, read the first sentence of my post again ?.
