Ugh!! I’d wait for them but I might get the APP for now. Undecided…

There are some sales on them now. I'd wager either an 'Apple Event' where they will be an unofficial 'one last thing', or they will be unceremoniously released suddenly in the store. Who knows. I would be surprised if they waited that long, into next year, unless they are having manufacturing issues.

I ended up ordering them from Bestbuy. They had them discounted - $30 plus the rewards I’ll get for the purchase. I also ordered the new AP3, so we’ll get to try them all on and compare all of them (AP2 included).

Only owned the first gen version. I was close to purchasing the Pro, but, watched a review and noticed the silicone tips. Not a fan.

So, gen 3 AirPods ordered.

Nope. The Pro’s are for the gym and when I’m out and about. The AP3 will be replacing my AP2 for home use. I watch a lot of movies and TV late at night with my current AP2, the improvements in bass and overall sound quality is what sold them. I might sell my AP2 with wireless charging case. DM me if anyone is interested.

I still got the AirPods Pro despite that it had silicone tips. However I replaced the silicone tips with the memory foams. Apparently my ear doesn't like silicone as the skin around my ear gets easily irritated when I have silicone. But with memory foams it's more soothing. YMMV.

Good to hear about those. Any specific ones you got?

Yes, silicone tips hit both ways. I've had them wher they are really slick, and the buds are useless, and other times when they are more 'grippy', and they stick in much much better. But then it's such a pain getting the right size tips, and then finding the extras when I get pissed off enough to want to try a different size.

Fun fact: You can downgrade to AirPods 3 by removing tips from AirPods Pro and disabling T/NC modes.

Personally, I'm switching to AirPods 3 after using AirPods Pro for 2 years without ear tips, because of better sound/battery/reliability.
I have Max for home and using NC outdoors with electric scooters flying around is plain dangerous.

I am, but only because for some reason I’ve developed an allergy to the ear tips that Apple uses. My ears break out into a horrible and painful rash. It only started happening about a year ago and it only happens when I wear them or the beats pro. The 3rd party foam tips just don’t fit well for me so I had to sell them and move on. Hoping the AP3 are a better alternative.

I am horrified, as a bicyclist, to come up on people walking like they own the world, and they can't hear me announcing that I'm coming up on them. That ignores the people who play their music so loud I can hear it a couple of feet away as I approach them.

The huge problem is that some people, when overtaken by a bicyclist, panic, and jump, sometimes into the biker, and sometimes into anyone following on a bike. It doesn't happen often, but the damage and injuries can be life altering. Nothing will stop it, but it is one thing that I am growing very uncomfortable with. On the flip side, too many cyclists are themselves wearing earbuds, and yes, headphones, and are ignorant of people and vehicles moving around them. I have ridden with AirPods before, but never have the volume up loud enough to drown out things around me. I gave up wearing them after feeling that I was being hypocritical, decrying people wearing them as runner/walkers and my use as a biker.

You can't fix stupid, and that is at no time clearer than now. (But, heck, in college, there was a blind guy that was seen walking around the city WEARING HEADPHONES! Many people called the police on him because it was a clear and present danger to himself and others, but it's not against the law to be stupid and endanger your own life that way.

Sadly there is no 'fix' for it, and it happened enough times to be disturbing, and distracting while riding... I don't regret switching to riding primarily indoors. It's crazy out there...:eek:??

I had the AP1, AP2 and AP pro. Recently the pro have this rattling sound when listening in high volume so wondering if I should get the AP3 vs. new pro? From what I read the only difference is the ANC (which I am not using really or care about) and the fact there is no silicone tips (which again I used to see as the Pro added value but I kind liked the no-tips feeling in ear). Anyone else thinking of moving to AP3?

Apple will fix your APP, this is known issue. I had both mine replaced last year.

I am, sold mine a few months ago. Just kept falling out, even with the Comply foam tips. Bought some Bose QuietComfort earbuds (highly recommend) to replace them whilst waiting for AirPods 3, which I have now, and are fantastic.

Just picked up a pair

returning my $99 gen2 wired ones to Costco I got a couple months ago, already got it initiated

Also, not getting rid of my AirPods Pro (I dont know anyone buying used AirPods, gross) but they will not be used for anything anymore other than plane rides and noisy situations. So I dunno that these are really even a downgrade. they're SUPER light too. feels less bogged down by the stem weight.

The music quality is good enough on the gen3's I see no reason not to use them for 95% of stuff.

Major upgrade from 1/2.

A bonus is they dont show the icon graphic of the new case and headphones, but they do quick pair with my iOS 14 devices (all) That was my key concern but seems fine.

I'm not officially downgrading as I'm keeping the pro's, but so far I like the 3's. Magsafe alignment + the smaller case are very nice, along with no silicone tips. The Pro's are nice but I always preferred the open nature of the original AirPods. Now I feel the sound quality gap is much smaller.
