Rumors next year point to 5.4, 6.1, and 6.5" display sizes. If the 6.1" is identical to the other two sizes in every aspect, I wouldn't mind, but I hate to have to jump to 6.5" if it isn't. Loved the 5.8" size since in debuted in 2017.
It’s one reason I’m debating upgrading from my X - it could be the last year with 5.8, I want next year for the redesign etc, but if it drops to 5.4 I’ll be disappointed and not sure what I’ll do
I'm withholding judgment until I actually see the phone and have time to handle it. I do feel 5.8 is the sweet spot for me but I said that about the 4.7 phone too so I'll be open minded about the move to 5.4
Makes sense, the 5.8" model is the least popular and suffers from the classic problem of being "stuck in the middle" with no real advantages compared to 6.1" and 6.7". It's neither a phablet, a small phone, nor a low-cost phone.
I'd love a smaller screen phone. I honestly don't know what I'm going to do next time I need a phone; I'm on the X right now. I don't want anything bigger, but I also don't want to spend $1k+ on my phone. The only reason I upgraded to the X was because I found a loophole of sorts in that the Apple Store app was allowing me to sign up for a 2 year contract and give me the phone for $500. Not even my carrier (Sprint) would do that.
My husband definitely likes the 5.8” and I like the current size of the Max myself. Neither of us want to see changing sizes for our respective devices.
Not sure of all of his concerns, but for me the Max already peeks out pants back pockets. I also have to be mindful of handbag/crossbody pockets. I don’t like just tossing my phone in to one big black hole of stuff and prefer it to have its (mostly) own pocket.
I personally like the 5.8 and 6.1 sizes. I would never get a 5.4 size phone as it's just too small for me, and I am tired of the big phones at this point so if they do away with the 5.8 that only leaves the 6.1 as an option for me. If they made the 6.1 with pro specs that would be great but that probably won't happen.
No matter what they do some people aren’t going to be happy. I’m looking forward to a smaller phone that is easier/comfortable/secure to use one handed. If it was me I would keep 3 premium sized phones and maybe cut down on the colors (to keep the number of models in check If they are concerned about that).
I like the 5.8" size. I also like the 6.1" size, but i have no interest in the LCD and loss of a camera. I'm hoping they just leave the screen sizes alone, shrink the bezels and notch, and add an new SE replacement with the regular model features. I saw a few mockups of the 5.4" size and i am not really interested. The SE has always felt too small after using the larger phones. I feel like the smaller size screen people are very vocal and the majority of people are okay with the "larger" phones.
I’m not buying a 6.7 iPhone. 6.5 is as large as I would go. As a matter fact, I’m downsizing in 2020 to the 5.4 iPhone, [which we all know is coming]. If I need anything larger for viewing, I can easily resort to my iPads or laptop.
I think the rumors have misinterpreted the positioning of the sizes. I see it as the new 12 Pro sizes will be 6.1” and 6.7”, replacing the 5.8” and 6.5”. A slight bezel reduction and flattened sides (as also rumoured) will mean their bodies are basically no larger than they are today. The 5.4” joins the lineup at the entry level (the regular 12), with a price and size appropriate for attracting those buyers still holding onto the 6/7/8.
